    Football Trials Introduction

Our Football Academy is being developed in order to invest in upcoming footballing talent and provide the network, coaching, health and lifestyle advice that each player needs to make a successful career in football. If you are looking for a career in football, and live in the our local catchment, then your best chance will be to join our fantastic Academy. The academy coaching team will be UEFA licence and members of the Football Association’s Licence Coaches Club.

    About this Football Club Academy

The Academy will offer an advanced football development and education program supported by expert and dedicated staff. The Academy will use advanced technology and coaching methods to develop their players. We are actively looking for upcoming talent to join the academy, and will or can be selective about trialists.

As part of our Academy philosophy we recognise our duty of care to support the community within projects and selected programmes. It is important that we can enable the academy to be within the heartbeat of the soccer community and share experiences with groups that the centre can support. Through our local relationships we will regularly observe players, games and school soccer and view this as a key aspect of identifying players for the Academy whilst transferring our knowledge and ability to the local community.

As an Academy that will embrace a multidisciplinary approach we will take real pride in providing detailed individual support around the key roles in strength and conditioning. As part of our coaching programme players will receive regular guidance with components that support the overall physical demands for the developing player. This is seen through players in the maturation phase, specialised support, pre and post-performance. Our approach to the players understanding of dietary requirements, hydration, pre-hab and recovery is at the very heart of developing the person. These core values are key in the person understanding the demands of performance whilst progressing as a person.

How to get a Football Trial at this Football Club & Academy

Opportunities for open trials for players in all age groups do become available at various times, please remember can be based on player ability. Once the trials have been completed, you will have to be selected to have a trial at the Academy, so it is important that players are spotted in the right places at the right times.

For some players, they prefer a direct approach sending in links to videos of themselves playing football, but it is worth bearing in mind that clubs receive thousands of these videos each week and simply don’t have time to watch them all and go about their daily business, so the most effective way of getting scouted for a trial at Academy is to join a local football club or School, playing football already is highly advised if you wish to progress to a higher level.

Our scouts will regularly select young players from football schools, clubs and sessions and invite them to trial at the development centres for our Academy or teams, and anyone can play in their football schools so it offers an open door for all to get spotted. It is also particularly good planning to take your child to football schools as soon as they are old enough, so it enables them to develop their talents in line with the same level as their peers.

16+ and Adult playing opportunities for selected players to progress through the playing ranks, under the watchful eye of the Football Academy Scouts and Club Team Management.

    Syllabus at Our Football Academy

The training program at this Academy will be broken into technical and tactical training, with a special module for Goalkeepers. The below demonstrates:

    • The professional development phase at the clubs Academy. Professional, Semi Professional feeder system.
    • The youth development phase at the Academy
    • The foundation phase at the Academy
    • The youth / professional development phase at the Academy
    • The foundation development goalkeeper phase at the Academy
    • Male and Female Football Development Trial Opportunities.

Exploring the Future of Football at our Academy

Bio-Banding is an innovative way of grouping young football players according to their physical maturity rather than their age has been demonstrated to show big benefits when it comes to spotting hidden talent and reducing injuries.

Bio-banding is a strategy which has existed for a number of years but has only recently been trialled by clubs in the UK – groups players according to their maturity level. This means youth teams are mixed when it comes to ages, but roughly equal when it comes to how physically developed players are. It is designed to avoid the David and Goliath situation whereby a late developing child is pitched against an early developed child, who has an advantage in size and strength.

Advocates suggest bio-banding should not completely replace traditional practices which group players by age. But they suggest bio-banding can be an additional coaching tool used to better identify and retain talented yet late maturing athletes and can expose early and late developers to new challenges and learning opportunities.

The Football Academy at this Football Club is considered paramount to the club’s success and integral part of our football philosophy. Youth development is represented at board level through to our Academy Football Director.

    Our Football Mission

We have adopted a strategy to develop and coach the whole person to be world class. This approach is adopted throughout the club, youth to senior first team, staff to player. This is with the aim to develop not just the footballer/athlete but a rounded positive person in the community.

Our Football Academy will never consider itself finished or fully developed but consider its purpose to continually strive to set the standard of player support, and development (football, education and personal).

    Football Vision

The academy vision is to produce players for the first team, year on year, with the technical ability on the field to compete at the highest level domestically, and internationally.

The club will always hold the community close to its heart and therefore the off the field behaviour will set an exemplary standard in the community and nationwide.

The club will play a type of football that is considered ‘attractive’ and technical based whilst demonstrating the club’s 7 Pillars.

The academy will not be orientated on results but players will be expected to demonstrate the competitive behaviours and positive/growth mentality it takes to deal with the demands of professional football and life.

NB: The Club understands that although the desired goal is to create world-class footballers, this goal may not be achieved by all in the system – fulfilling potential is the goal.

A guide to the Elite Player Performance Plan

    What is the EPPP?

The Elite Player Performance Plan is an ambitious long-term vision with the aim of giving English football the ability to create the best Academy system in the world, allowing clubs to produce more and better quality home grown players.
It has been developed after consultations with Academy Managers, Premier League clubs, the Football League, the Football Association, and other key stakeholders within the game.

Football Academies were audited by an external company Double pass, judged against the EPPP’s classification system, and put into one of four categories – the highest of which will give clubs more opportunity to extend its elite environment and make more strategic decisions.

The new classification replaced the old two-tier model of Academies and Centre of Excellence systems, and has seen a major change in the way that youth football is delivered in this country.

    Classification

Category One - Regular graduation of players into the Premier League and wider professional game with up to 8,500 coaching hours

Category Two - Graduation of players into the Premier League and Championship from time to time and regular graduates into the wider game with up to 6,600 coaching hours

Category Three - Graduation of players regularly into the professional game predominantly in Leagues one and two and players potentially capable of progression into Cat One and Cat Two Academies with up to 3,600 coaching hours

Category Four - Graduation of players into the professional game League two and semi-professional level with up to 3,200 coaching hours

The Premier League, The Football League and the Football Association invest an increased amount of central income into Youth Development nationwide, so the higher the classification given to the club in the EPPP following the independent audit, the more funding is made available to the club, alongside signification financial commitments from the clubs at each category.

    Key Principals

There are six fundamental principles that have been highlighted as key to the success of the EPPP, and will be achieved by focusing on coaching, classification, compensation, and education.

    1. Increase the number and quality of home grown players gaining professional contracts in the clubs and playing first team football at the highest level.

    2. Create more time for players to play and be coached.

    3. Improve coaching provision.

    4. Implement a system of effective measurement and quality assurance.

    5. Positively influence strategic investment into the Academy System demonstrating value for money.

    6. Seek to implement significant gains in every aspect of player development.

A focus of the EPPP is to allow players more time to practice with their coaches, as well as fostering links with local schools to not only aid players in their development as a footballer, but also to help nurture young players from an academic point of view.

7 Pillars of the Academy and Football Trial Opportunities

    Competitive environment for Football Trials

The academy specialises in the individual, this is evident very early in the session. The arrival activity is individualised and the tempo, expectations, feedback and interaction within the session allow the player to perform to a high standard and really take pride in their own performance.

    Individual player focused delivery

The ethos of this Football Academy is the individual is at the centre of the delivery and journey. This bespoke service really enables players to understand where they currently are within their game, what the focus of delivery is in relation to their game and how they can achieve the required expectation. All generated from development and evident in overall performance.

    Technically driven excellence in Football

The structure of the syllabus is really focused on the technical demands of the modern game. As a result the delivery and sessions generated connect the individual to the game, with great emphasis to become technically outstanding footballers.

    Outstanding Football Player basics

As the academy fulfils a multi-disciplined approach there is real emphasis on general outstanding fundamentals. This maybe movement patterns related to the game, cognitive understanding and thought processes, emotional intelligence to fulfil the demands of elite performance and personality of the player.

Coach football ability to support player development

The academy delivers a relevant and professional service to support the player. This requires players to want to be part of that journey. Do they want to engage in development? Can they retain information? Are they proactive with their own performance? Can they be resilient and understand disappointment whilst striving for achievement?

    Reflection driven and Football Analysis

The systematic approach enables regular dialogue and feedback generated. Players receive honest feedback that can support short and long term goals. Evidence of performance is needed to be part of the players understanding and to strive to develop.

    Personal Football Player expectations

Part of the academy is to develop people. Can the player gain greater life skills, performance tools to enhance preparation and post recovery? We want our players to strive to improve all forms of their personality and value the great opportunity they have within the academy and as young people that are at the very early staged of their careers.
Our  Academy offers an advanced football development and education programme supported by expert and dedicated staff. The Academy uses advanced technology and coaching methods to develop their female players. We are actively looking for upcoming talent to join the Academy. Players under 16 predominantly must live within 1hr (young players) to 1hr, 30 minutes distance from training venue.

Birmingham City Official Player Recruitment Process

The player recruitment department is tasked with the monitoring, selection and transition of players operating outside of our Academy environment. The recruitment team will work collectively with our coaches to the identification of players within the three phases of the player pathway.

The priority of the department is to recruit, develop and produce players able to reach the Academy’s core purpose. This process is player centered, focusing on the identification of players able to excel in one or more of the four corners associated to player development and, where possible predominantly recruit from a catchment area within an hour of Birmingham. The strategy will be collaborative in nature, planned and aligned to the profiles through each of the development phases where appropriate.

    PRE-ACADEMY

The Pre-Academy is a development programme designed to identify, assess and nurture local talented individuals between 6 - 8 years of age. The primary aim is to develop technically gifted individuals for our U9’s squads who become accustomed to the club’s culture and playing philosophy through weekly training sessions and games, allowing for an easy transition into the Academy way of life. The major emphasis of the programme is technical development. With the use of the clubs training facilities, and a structured coaching syllabus and games programme, our UEFA qualified Academy staff seek to increase player to ball contact time in a fun, inclusive and professional environment.

    COMMUNITY TRUST

The Club has a very large Community Trust scheme operating a number of local coaching programmes. The Community Trust run a shadow squad programme for U12-U14 players participating on a weekly basis in a number of local grass root leagues. There is also a full time programme for the U17-U19’s.

Players from within the Community Trust programme can be directly recommended by a member of staff for a trial period. In addition to this, each Community Trust coach working within the shadow squad and on the U17-19 programme acts as a spotter, recommending opposition players they have seen in the fixtures that their respective teams have participated in.

    SCHOOLS FOOTBALL PROGRAMME

Within the West Midlands area there is a thriving schools football programme. Through community links, it has been identified that there are some young players who only participate in schools’ football and may not be observed participating in local grass root fixtures. There are a number of reasons for this, the most common being a recent move to the area or little/no parental support.

The Academy continually supports West Midland District Schools at both primary and secondary level allowing the use of the training facilities for prestigious games in their calendar. School staff are also invited to Academy CPD events in order to aid their development as coaches. This relationship means there is the opportunity for talented players who are identified by school staff to be recommended directly to the Recruitment Manager/Officer. This may lead to an observation, and if suitable, an invitation to the Academy trial process.

    TRIAL APPLICATION

The Academy is always on the lookout for local talented young players. Should you or someone you know, wish to be considered for a trial please follow the procedure set forth below. Players between 9 and 18 years old are asked to send their playing CV and cover letter to the Academy Recruitment Manager and Officer.

Please make sure to include the following:

Brentford FC Football Academy Trial Dates

Brentford FC Community Sports Trust has announced that the next trials for its Football Development Centre (FDC) will take place  at Uxbridge High School. The FDC offers talented young players the opportunity to receive elite coaching– enhancing their skills in a player-centred environment.

What does the Football Development Centre involve?

With elite football coaching spanning more than 18 years, players will attend weekly training sessions at venues in Southall, Twickenham and Uxbridge. Goalkeepers are catered for with specialist coaching staff. The FDC includes term-time training in the evening and a structured development match programme against other football sports trusts such as Coventry City, Ipswich Town, MK Dons, Oxford United, Wycombe Wanderers and many more.

Plus, there are established Performance Squads as a level up from the current FDC programme. This initiative provides capable players with the opportunity to play against more skilled teams.

What is the benefit of joining the Football Development Centre?

Parents have highlighted the positive impact our FDC has had on their children.

Damian Christian, whose son attends our FDC, said: “We would like to thank the Brentford FC Football Development Centre and all the coaching staff for helping with Frankie’s footballing progress. He has thoroughly enjoyed the training after joining aged seven, the coaches and methods used by the development centre has had an incredibly strong and positive effect on him as a person and player.”

Simon Cairnes agrees: “When the boys play against other opposition, their superior skills, positioning and tactical knowledge really shines through and shows just how well they are coached.”

What is the criteria for the trials?

    The trials are available to:

    • boys in school years 1 to 11
    • boys who live in Hounslow, Ealing, Richmond, Hillingdon and Spelthorne.

Excitingly, the Football Development Centre will run sessions from Gunnersbury Park’s new sports hub from September. The new £13.8 million sports hub will provide top-class facilities – including two outdoor floodlit artificial grass pitches.

This Academy is developed in order to invest in upcoming footballing talent and provide the network, coaching, health and lifestyle advice that each player needs to make a successful career in football. If you are looking for a career in football, and live in this academy catchment, then your best chance will be to join the Academy.

    About this Academy

This Academy offer an advanced football development and education programme supported by expert and dedicated staff.

    This Academy is located at:

This clubs Academy use advanced technology and coaching methods to develop their players. They are actively looking for upcoming talent to join their academy, and are very selective about who gets in, as competition is tough.

With the changes that have taken place in the football academy system. Academy Category three clubs are now free (U12+) to recruit from all over the nation.

Previously, Category three clubs could only recruit talent within a 90 minute travelling time to the academy, but the FA have reconsidered this following thinking that the best talent should only fairly be allowed to play in the best academies even if they do not live nearby. This gives the very best talent the very best chances of success, thus growing our home grown talent for the international stage.

This has seen a rise in host families being recruited here, to help house young promising talent in safe family environments.

    Upcoming Fixtures

We have a whole programme of upcoming activities, fixtures and events. Check the times of each match or look up the match venue for any of the Academy age groups.

How to get a trial at this team

In most cases to get a trial at this team you would need be selected to have a trial at this club, so it is important that footballers are spotted in the right places at the right times. For some players, football clubs prefer a more direct approach such as sending in links to videos of themselves playing football, but it is worth bearing in mind that clubs receive thousands of these football CV videos each week and don't always have lots of time to watch them all. We have found the most effective way of getting scouted for a trial at this club is by following a few simple step.

Scouts regularly select young players from soccer school sessions and invite them to trial to places that are called football development center, and anyone can play in their soccer schools so it offers an open door for all players to get spotted and scouted.

It is also particularly good planning to take your child to soccer schools sometimes called football schools as soon as they are old enough, as their competition will be doing the same, so it enables players to develop their footballing talents in line with the same level as their peers.

How to get scouted by a Football Academy Scout

Football Academy Scouts offer players the chance to trial at Football Clubs. Many players are lucky enough to find themselves in the right places when scouts are watching games, but we are also very aware that good talent can slip through the net. Professional Football Clubs do offer football and soccer players the chance to directly apply for a trials by contacting them through official trial application routes, such as the clubs direct trials contact or through the Academy Development Manager.

To apply and get scouted by a scout please follow these details.

Understandably they are not always able to respond to everybody due to the volume of applications, but this does serve as an effective way to alert football scouts about your skills and footballing talent with a view for those players and parents looking to take their football to the next level, eve professional and secure a genuine, and real football trial

To get scouted for a trial simply collect the following information:

    • Football Players CV

    • Covering Trial Application Letter

    • Football Players Vital Statistics: Players position, Age, Date of Birth, Height, Weight, contact email/phone/address, current club, previous clubs, detail of any trials already attended, any representative success stories such as school, districts, county etc

    • Players school, College or Scholarship they attend or currently attend

    • A players Football Clubs Fixture list, mainly of your current football team, including match locations and kick off time to be passed to football scout. Please give as many dates a possible preferably for the whole season. No need to include training, just match kick of times and locations including postcode. This is basically your trials opportunity that will give the scout the opportunity to watch you.

Once you have collated all of the above information, email it to the football club.

They will assess your application and decide whether or not to send a scout to watch the game.
