Prospects College To Run Academy In 2013/14

Canvey Island FC and Prospects College are to strengthen our relationship when the club’s Academy side will transfer to the new Canvey Skills Campus for the 2013/14 season.

Currently located at James Hornsby School in Laindon, training and teaching will now take place at Prospects’ brand new campus in Meppel Avenue on Canvey. Matches will continue to be played at The Prospects Stadium on Wednesday afternoons.

The apprentices will study football coaching to an NVQ Level 3, and will also have the opportunity to do a BTEC in sport. Additionally, they will have access to a wide range of vocational courses including Bricklaying, Carpentry, Building Services (Plumbing & Electrical) and Motor Vehicle Maintenance.

In the last two years the Academy has proven to be a tremendous success, culminating this season in which the Gulls reached the FA Youth Cup 3rd Round for the first time in our history – the same stage as the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United.

The Academy won promotion to the Premier Divison of the English College FA League in their first season, and are currently second in the league this season with a great chance of claiming the title.

Furthermore, six of this season’s Academy side have been included in the First Team squad, with a combined total of 23 senior appearances being attributed to these players.

Trials will take place at the Prospects Stadium on Tuesday 2nd and Friday 5th of April 2013, with both days will starting at 2pm.
