    Aims and Objectives

The aim of Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development is to identify

players with excellent football skills and

assist them in achieving their football ambition while also empowering them with academic enrichment.

We produce quality players for the Kaizer Chiefs senior team in order to sustain the success of the club

and also contribute to various national teams in the country.

    Overview

The Youth Development was started around the 1970s operating from Soweto and later had its

base in Rockville to accommodate all the players from around Soweto. It was then known as

Kaizer Chiefs Reserve side and attracted most of its players from Rockville and surrounding

areas of Soweto. It was from this base where players like, Rider Mofokeng, Wellington Manyathi,

Doctor Kumalo, Brian Baloyi, Thabo Mooki, Ntsie Maphike and Trevor Mthimkulu were identified.

Today some of these players are coaches in the Youth Development and others are still household

    names in their own rights.

The Reserve Side then evolved in the 1980s to include other junior teams like the under-10 and

under-12 Chappies Little League that produced players like Tshepo Molatedi as well as the

Toyota U21 where players like Isaac Kungoane were discovered. The main reason for

playing in these competitions was to attract players outside Soweto and also to market the

    Kaizer Chiefs brand.

In 1996 Kaizer Chiefs forged working links with one of the top universities in South Africa,

Rand Afrikaanse University which had an image of being a white University to blend the

image of the two organisation and produce a true South African partnership.

The RAU Chiefs Development was based on true partnership of exposing football

players to an institution that had all facilities in education, psychology, and welfare as

well as being part of a renowned Football Club.

This relationship produced a number of interesting results both academically and in sporting

world. A number of players from the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development were awarded certificates

in Sports management as well as one degree while the following players emerged from the

Academy: Jabu Pule, Kaizer Motaung Jnr, Isaac Mabotsa, Thabiso Malatsi, Nhlanhla Kubeka,

Nhlanhla Mathebula, Gerald Sibeko, Buti Sithole, Junior Kanye and recently Lucky Mzizi. Other

players who graduated from the academy and could not be accommodated in the senior team

where loaned to other teams while some players like Patrick Thwala were sold outright.

The Youth Development used RAU infrastructure in the form of soccer fields, psychologists,

physiotherapists and other facilities including accommodation.

The objective was to attract the best and promising youngsters around South Africa and this was

achieved by the club’s largest network of passionate supporters.

In 2003, the Youth Development was attracting a number of younger players from the ages of 12

years into the Programme. This necessitated a new approach as the schooling and the housing

of these players. To achieve that, the Youth Development moved to St. Barnabas College in Bosmont

which offered a one stop facility for training, schooling, boarding and lodging for our younger players.

St Barnabas College was chosen for its good academic record over the years. In the past year,

the club has moved some of their players doing Grade 12 to Meadowlands High School in Soweto

and their presence has elevated the standard of soccer at the school.

In 2006, the Youth Development achieved one of the major milestones when it partnered with the

Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) and Central Johannesburg College to form an alliance that

would allow Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development to have exclusive use of the Central Johannesburg

College sporting facilities at Highveld College including soccer fields, gymnasium. This partnership

also included the moving in-house of the Youth Development players to have exclusive use of the 180

bed hostel, the kitchen and dining facilities. With this relationship, Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development

will be able to reach the local communities, thus imparting football knowledge as well as other life

    skills to the community.

This agreement also opens all academic facilities within the control of Central Johannesburg

College to Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development. These facilities include Life Skills Programme, Computer

Training Facilities, Engeneering (Electrical and Civil), Arts and culture, plumbing and bricklaying.

Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development is now a fully fletched academy with players from the ages of 12 to

18 years. The players who come from outside Johannesburg who were previously housed at St

Barnabas and the Club House in Auckland Park have now been relocated to Highveld College resident.

The Youth Development is supported by a structure of highly qualified staff in their various

disciplines starting from management, education and coaching.

    The Administration

Vincent Williams – Manager Youth Development Programme whose overall responsibility is

to oversee all activities of the Youth Development

Adison Bongani Mngadi – Education Manager whose responsibility is total education

    responsibility within the Youth Development.

Abe Ditsego – Transport Manage and House father who is responsible for all

transport logistics in the Development including responsibility for boarding and

    lodging of players.

Benett Mehlomakhulu – Kit Manager responsible for players kit and uniform

Joe Matebege - Kit Manager responsible for players kit and uniform

    Current Coaching Staff

    Ryder Mofokeng
    Doctor Khumalo
    Ntsie Mphike

In 2006, the Youth Development and the whole soccer fraternity lost Patrick “Ace”

Ntsoelengoe who was our under 15 coach at the time of his death.

The staff is constantly in touch with players looking after their welfare, schooling and

medical needs. Regular interface between parents and the Development staff is

encouraged thus helping bridge the gap of players being home sick. This is done in the

form of formal meetings or by telephone.

    Youth Development Achievements

Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development players have been involved in a number of local

as well as international tournaments as a team or the players being part of a National structure.

Our players were part of a group that represented South Africa in France in

1998 in an International Youth Competition in which they were knocked out by

Argentine in the final. Some players were involved in the Danone Competition in

France 2002 and were knocked out in the semi-final by Holland.

In June 2003 the Youth Development Under 15 team was invited to participate in

The Milk Cup competition in Ireland. Our team played against most youth teams

from the English Premier Division Clubs and was knocked out in the final by Maccabi

    Heifa from Israel.

A number of players impressed the scouts in this tournament and one of our player,

Michael Nkabule has been signed by Straussberg Academy in France.

In 2004, the Under 15 team won the National Nike Tournament and went to play in

the International Manchester United Premier Cup in Manchester, England.

During 2004, our teams won the U15, U17 and U19 local league titles with the

U13 being placed second. Earlier in 2005, the U17 competed in the Zayed International

Youth Cup in Abu Dhabi. Our team came third in this competition with bronze medals.

The Kaizer Chiefs U13 Development team competed in the MDC International Youth

Tournament in Seoul, Korea in June 2005 where they played against National

teams from Korea, Paraguay and Japan. They were beaten in the finals by Japan

National team and were awarded FIFA Fair Play Shield and Silver medals.

In June 2006, Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development U19 side competed in the Hong

Kong Sevens Football tournament. This is a seven a side tournament played in Hong

Kong by most of the European and Asian teams.

In August 2006 the Under-17 team was invited to compete in a U17 World Tournament in

Spain. In this tournament teams from as far as South America and Europe were invited

and Kaizer Chiefs was the only team from South Africa. Our performance in this tournament

was excellent as Real Madrid in the quarter finals.

The Youth Academy reports their developments directly to the Kaizer Chiefs management

on a regular basis and the senior team technical staff always provides the necessary

support. Senior team players recovering from injuries are sometimes allowed to train with

the Reserve team in the Academy as well as getting involved in playing friendly games with

the Youth teams. This is used as a bridging exercise to enable the junior players to acclimatize

themselves with senior players. At other times, some Development players are also allowed

to train with the senior team as well as playing against the senior team.

The Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Academy is a programme that is FREE of charge for all players across the different age-groups. We currently have five age-groups namely our under-13, under-15, under-17, under-19 and the reserve team.

Our responsibility as a football club is to set and maintain a standard of excellence at the training rounds.

We expect extremely high standards of our players, and we expect them to understand that their development starts every day that they walk through the gates of the KC Village.

The KC development houses some of its players at the state of the art KC Village in Naturena where players are under the tutelage of house fathers and mothers.

The academy team does not hold open trials as most of our players are scouted around the country, and then invited for further assessment.

    Trials/Assessments

Kindly be informed that Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Academy will have a player assessment in February 2019, for players between the ages of 11 years & 17 years ONLY.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FIRST GROUP OF TRIALISTS HAS ALREADY BEEN SELECTED.

The academy operates five full time teams, within the structure:

    1.Under-13     2.Under-15     3.Under-17     4.Under-19   5. Reserve Team

Academy players train 3- 5 days a week, with one game per week. The focus of the players development is the training that occurs throughout the week, as they train to develop as players, not in preparation for their next game. KC players train in training groups. Training groups are not organized by the year of birth, but by the players’ needs and skills level.

The leagues that the development teams participate in are the SAFA Gauteng Development League – GDL, SAFA Johannesburg – SAB League and the MultiChoice Diski Challenge – MDC.

HOW TO START A SOCCER SCHOOL

So You Want To Start A Soccer School?

Here I will share with you my experiences in how to start a soccer school.

We or I have been running soccer school for many years and I am often

asked how to start or run a soccer school.

Apply Here for Football Trials players desperately needed

There is not specific straight forward formula to running a soccer school or a place

for children to play football, but should you be successfull then you can reap the

rewards. I dont specifically mean financial but I earn a full time living out of my soccer school and you can too.

Soccer school name is important infact it is your brand and is the first thing people

    see about your soccer school.

Be football or learning focused, if you are financially focused this is not a good

foundation for a successful soccer school.

You must appeal to the kids and to there parents.

It is important that you have your coaching qualifications and certainly a bit of experience

in coaching as generally your background is what will interests parents.

Also they will trust your soccer school based on your history too.

Treat every session or class as if its the first, never take anything or anyone for granted.

Children come to you and they are fresh, and to them it is like the first session every time.

Be punctual and always prepared. Do not allow parents to coach or be involved, they

hand there children over to you and when they cross the white line you are responsible

for them and must allow children to express themselves.

Be entusiastic and polite, and make the sessions fun.

Give high fives and be complemetary.

Enure children wear correct kit or maybe ask them to buy your training kit.

Get there names on reverse that gives them ownership and also promote your

    company as much as possible.

People will leave but ensure it looks like you are moving them on to better clubs

and see it this way rather than them leaving you.

When you employ a coach work alongside with him/her and ensure they follow the

same system you introduce, always get a coach to sign that they cannot run or

coach your children for at least 2 years after leaving as they can try to take away

    your business.

Keep costs realistic and not too high, always charge them. Never offer a long

free term of sessions as they are joining you for the wrong reasons. If you are

good enough then they will pay. Try to sell inb locks of sessions say 1 months

    or 10 weeks.

Offer incentives always, we offer a badge system that players progress too.

This also makes them buy the shirt from you.

Make coaching fun and specific. Start on time and finish on time.

    Always wear branded clothing.

ALWAYS ALWAYS give presentations at the end of a session, for a specific thing,

and encourage them to return the trophy, the following week.

Finish sessions on a positive, ie a game or shooting practice, not a defending session.

Plan trips ahead to football grounds as a group, always give parents and children

something to look forward too. Use the internet to promote set up facebook

groups take photos of winners etc always never stop. Again treat the next winner

    as if its your first.

I think this is all for now, but feel free to browse my website for further

opportunities to enhance or how to start a soccer school.

And remember If I can run a successful soccer school then anyone can.

I am always here to help or offer advise just email me and i'll get right back to you.

    COACH - SCOTT

I was brought up in a very football minded family
All my dad talked about at home at the pub at work was football and in particular Wolverhampton wanderers
But my dad was lucky he got to see wolves win the league championship three times and fa cup and be the first English team to play against European oppositon
I lived mainly through the team being in the third and fourth division and the championship/div 1 for ever

Maybe I wanted to stay in football because I feel I probably gave up playing too early deciding to go into refereeing at 28

I have loved football eversince I was old enough to remember watching playing whether it be in the street or on  pitch

Still my favourite memory of footall is italia 90 and gazza best world cup ever

I feel I have a lot to offer children in football and there is no better feeling than seeing a child improve over a space of time stepping back and thinking maybe I had something to do with that

Scott has been a coach with Tony's soccer school since early 2008 and is a fully qualified FA level 1 Football Coach. Well liked, good with children, and great enthusiasm for the game of football. Also supports Wolves.

    Qualifications:
    FA level 1 coach,
    FA qualified referee,
    Laws of the game,
    Enhanced Child protection Certified.
    child protection certified,
    soccer parent,
    qualified first aider.

     COACH - TIM

When i was about Rubens age I played football for 'The Aldingbourne Colts'. Played a few 5  side games when i was in my 20s.
Always enjoyed watching the game, Southampton are the team that i support.  I have been to the dell a couple of times and st marys.
Matt le-tissier was one of my favourite players, got a video of all his goals, if anybody's interested? (dont all rush).
I have recently got involved in football, as my two boys became keen to play.
Since joining Tonys soccer school, two years ago, my two boys and i have enjoyed it very much. After assisting scott with the team last season, Tony asked if i fancied helping with the training side of things, and i accepted. I enjoy being involved, and watching all of the children progress. Rubens been going twice a week for two years and played in the league last season and he has improved alot. Its great to see all the kids giving it there best on a saturday.

Thats why i am involved in football.  Thanks to Tonys soccer school.  Regards Tim, Ruben and little Orlando

Football Rules - Official FIFA Laws of the Game

FIFA, the world governing body of soccer, publishes and updates the official Football rules of the game. The most recent set of soccer rules (or Laws of the Game as FIFA officially titles them). There are seventeen official Laws of the Game. Below is a summarized version of each of the laws.

Law 1 - The Field of Play

    Law 2 - The Ball

Law 3 - The Number of Players

    Law 4 - The Player's Equipment

    Law 5 - The Referee

Law 6 - The Assistant Referees

Law 7 - The Duration of the Match

Law 8 - The Start and Restart of Play

Law 9 - The Ball In and Out of Play

Law 10 - The Method of Scoring

    Law 11 - Offside

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct

    Law 13 - Free Kicks

Law 14 - The Penalty Kick

    Law 15 - The Throw-In

Law 16 - The Goal Kick

Law 17 - The Corner Kick

Law 1 - The Field of Play

This law regulates the field surface, dimensions, markings and goals. The field of play must be rectangular and marked with boundary lines. The two longer boundary lines are called touch lines and the two shorter boundary lines are called goal lines. It is important to note that the touch lines must be longer than the goal lines.

    Dimensions

    Standard matches:

    Length (touch line): minimum 100 yds (90 m) -- maximum 130 yds (120 m)

    Width (goal line): minimum 50 yds (45 m) - maximum 100 yds (90 m)

    International matches:

    Length (touch line): minimum 110 yds (100 m) -- maximum 120 yds (110 m)

    Width (goal line): minimum 70 yds (64 m) - maximum 80 yds (75 m)

    Goals

The goals must be placed on the center of each goal line. The dimensions of the goal are 8 yds (7.32 m) wide by 8 ft (2.44 m) high.

    Law 2 - The Ball

    The ball:

    1) Made of leather or "other suitable material"

    2) Spherical

    3) Circumference measurement between 27 inches (68 cm) and 28 inches (70 cm)

    4) Weight of between 14 oz (410 g) and 16 oz (450 g)

Additionally, for all FIFA international matches, the ball must go through a certification process to be deemed suitable for use on the international level.

Law 3 - The Number of Players

Each team consists of eleven players, including one goalkeeper. A match cannot start unless each team consists of at least seven players.
In international competitions under the control of FIFA, a maximum of three substitutions are allowed during a match (including any overtime period). Once a player has been removed, he may not reenter the game at a later point. Most domestic leagues throughout the world conform to these FIFA guidelines.
In many lower-level games throughout the world, substitution policies are much more relaxed. There are usually no limits to the number of substitutes allowed, and a player is free to enter and leave the game multiple times.

Law 4 - The Player's Equipment, Football Rules - Official FIFA Laws of The Game

    The basic equipment consists of:

    1) Jersey

    2) Socks

    3) Shorts

    4) Shin guards

    5) Shoes

The only major guidelines are that the teams must wear colors that distinguish them from the other team, and that the players cannot wear any equipment that might be dangerous to them or another player.

    Law 5 - The Referee

A single on-field referee controls each match. That referee has full power to enforce the Laws of the Game; the decision-making authority is completely vested with the referee. His many duties include: determining when the match starts and stops, awarding 'red' and 'yellow' cards for cautionable offenses, and calling free kicks and penalties for fouls and misconduct.

Law 6 - The Assistant Referees

Two assistant referees may be appointed to help the referee officiate the match. The final decisions are ultimately up to the referee, but the assistant referees (who stand on the touch lines) aid the referee in determining such items as whether the ball left the field of play, offside, and fouls committed.

Law 7 - The Duration of the Match

A regulation match consists of two equal periods of 45 minutes, unless otherwise agreed upon before the start of play. This change must be agreed by the referee and the two teams.
The referee generally adds "stoppage time" for time lost throughout the period due to items such as substitutions, injuries and time wasting. This extra time is completely at the discretion of the referee.

Law 8 - The Start and Restart of Play

This is a general rule that governs the procedure for starting each half and after a goal is scored. Before the match, a coin toss occurs and the winner decides which goal it will defend in the first half. The other team gets to kick off to start the match. The original coin toss winner kicks off the second half and the teams switch sides.
The procedure for a restart is that all players must be in their half of the field, and all opposing players must be at least ten yards from the ball. Once the ball is stationary on the center mark and the referee gives the appropriate signal, the ball can be kicked forward to restart play.

Law 9 - The Ball In and Out of Play

The ball is considered out of play when it has completely crossed the goal or touch line, regardless of whether it is in the air or the ground, or when play has been stopped by the referee.

The ball is considered in play at all other times.

Law 10 - The Method of Scoring

A goal is scored when the entirety of the ball crosses the goal line between the goalposts and under the crossbar. A goal can be erased by the referee when he determines that a foul or infringement of the rules was committed by the team scoring the goal.

This Law also prescribes the methods for breaking a tie in a competition where a winner is necessary. The three methods are the away goals rule, extra time and penalty kicks.

    Law 11 - Offside

The first point to establishing an understanding of offside is to learn the definition of an offside position. A player is in an offside position if he is closer to the opposing goal than both the ball and two opponents (in general terms this means the goalkeeper and one defender). He is not in an offside position if he is on the exact level as the second to last opponent. It is also impossible to be in an offside position in your own half of the field.

It is important to remember that just because the player is in an offside position, that doesn't necessarily mean he will be penalized. The key is that the referee must decide whether he is actively involved in the play by either interfering with the play or an opponent or by gaining an advantage by being in that position. Even if a player is in an offside position, no foul will be called if the player receives the ball from a goal kick, corner kick or throw-in. If the referee decides to whistle an offside offense, an indirect free kick is awarded at the spot the infringement occurred.

Please note that offside is only considered at the instant the ball is played from a teammate. So at the instant the ball is passed, was the player in an offside position? That is the key question. It isn't relevant if he is in what would be considered an offside position when he receives the ball; it is only relevant at the instant the ball was played.

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct. Football Rules - Official FIFA Laws of The Game

    Direct Free Kicks
A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits one of the following ten offenses: 1-9) Kicking (or attempt), tripping (or attempt), jumping at, charging, striking (or attempt), pushing, tackling, holding, or spitting at an opponent
    10) Deliberately handling the soccer ball

The direct free kick is taken at the exact spot the offense occurred.
If one of the ten direct kick offenses is committed by a player inside his own penalty area (regardless of where the ball is located), a penalty kick is awarded.

    Indirect Free Kicks
An indirect free kick, also taken at the spot of the foul, is awarded for more general reasons such as dangerous play, or impeding the progress of an opponent. It is also awarded against a team if their goalkeeper: controls the ball with his hands for more than six seconds, touches the ball with his hands after a teammate deliberately kicks the ball back to him (same goes for a throw-in), or touches the ball after he had already handled it and put it on the ground.

    Yellow and Red Cards

A yellow card indicates that a player has been cautioned. A red card indicates that the player has been sent off or expelled from the game. If a player receives two yellow cards in one match, the effect is that of a red card. A player that has been sent off is not allowed to play for the remainder of that match (and often the subsequent match), and it is important to note that his team must play the remainder of the match a player down.

Yellow card offenses include items such as unsportsmanlike behavior, dissent and delaying the restart of play. Red card offenses include items such as violent conduct, foul play, abusive language, and denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity for the other team.

Law 13 - Free Kicks, Football Rules - Official FIFA Laws of The Game

As mentioned in Law 12, there are indirect and direct free kicks. A direct kick can be played directly into the opponents' goal without it touching another player. An indirect kick must touch another player before a goal can be scored. In both cases, when the ball is placed at the spot of the foul by the referee, the opposing team must stand at least 10 yards from the ball. Once the ball is played, that 10-yard boundary is no longer in effect.

Law 14 - The Penalty Kick, Football Rules - Official FIFA Laws of The Game

A penalty kick is awarded against a team that commits a direct kick offense (see Law 12) inside its own penalty area while the ball is in play.
The ball is placed on the penalty mark (12 yds) and one person is identified as the player taking the penalty kick. The goalkeeper must stay on his goal line until the ball has been kicked. The ball is in play once the ball is kicked forward and the kicker may not touch the ball again until another player touches it.

Law 15 - The Throw-In. Football Rules - Official FIFA Laws of The Game

A throw-in is the method of restarting play after the ball completely crosses the touch line and is out of bounds. The opponent of the team who last touched the ball is awarded the throw-in.
The thrower must have both feet on the ground, both hands on the ball and must deliver the ball from behind and over his head.
The closest member of the opposing team cannot be within 2 yards from the point of the throw-in. The ball is considered in play when it enters the field.

Law 16 - The Goal Kick. Football Rules - Official FIFA Laws of The Game

A goal kick is the method of restarting play after the ball has completely crossed the goal line, having been last touched by a member of the attacking team.
A goal kick is taken from any point within the goal area (commonly referred to as the 6-yard box) by a member of the defending team. All opponents must remain outside the penalty area (18-yard box) until the ball is in play.

Law 17 - The Corner Kick. Football Rules - Official FIFA Laws of The Game

A corner kick is the method of restarting play after the ball has completely crossed the goal line, having been last touched by a member of the defending team. A goal may be scored directly from a corner kick.
The ball is placed inside the corner arc markings near the corner flag. All opponents must stand at least 10 yards from the ball until it is back in play.

The major objective of this stage is to develop physical literacy and basic skills in

    children, through sport participation.

Skills will be delivered through programs centered on FUN (Fundamental,

Understanding, Nurturing) activities with 100% involvement.

Developing in each child agility, balance, coordination, speed, jumping,

passing, kicking, shooting, dribbling and control of the body sensory awareness.

Parents and players are educated on the lifestyle factors (nutrition, hydration,

recovery, support) that undermine player development.

Creating the building blocks for athletic success with the goals to create a well

rounded adult that will achieve success at any level of competitive sports.

JOSE MOURINHO REAL MADRID CHELSEA 10 TIPS

Jose Morinho Training. Ever since Jose Mourinho stepped into the hot seat at Chelsea,

there has been a fixation surrounding his training methods, philosophies and

the infamous 'coaching bible'. In many interviews, Mourinho has highlighted the fact

that a teams success derives from his 10 commandments. These set of principles or

rules are what he requires each individual or club to stick to in order for them to be successful.

Coaches like Steve Clarke highlighted the attention to detail Mourinho places on
everything from training ground pitch sizes to how the player's develop fitness in
pre-season. After reading the 10 commandments, I wondered whether these
principles could help Grassroots clubs develop their own club philosophy.

Some of the commandments here will have a different use (or no use) to each age group.
However I have tried to highlight the use of these principles to fit in with the club
    environment - The bigger picture.

    Enjoy.

    The 10 Commandments

JOSE MOURINHO REAL MADRID CHELSEA 10 TIPS

1: The only star is the team...

My greatest worry is the team. The collective effort. I have no idea where the physical

aspect ends and the tactical/psychological aspect begins, but football encaptures both.

    I can't
separate the two, but what I can say is
that football is not all about the physical aspect,

it's about much more than that. In the grand scheme of things, the physical aspect is

probably the least important element. Without organization and a talent in exploring

the different tactical models of the game, your weaknesses quickly become apparent,

regardless of how fit you are. - Jose Mourinho

Football is a team game. The emphasis should be on developing a group of

individuals who can perform together to achieve success. However, many argue that

we should be developing the individual to achieve, not the team. I understand that we

must develop individual creativity, balance, technique and skill however ultimately,

football is played with 10 other players (at 11v11) and therefore we must create a

club environment that promotes working together, not working alone.

2: Tactics are worked on from day one..

The most important thing in football is to have a style of play, a set of principles that

offer organisation to the team. For that reason, my focus is on tactics from day

    one. - Jose Mourinho

How can the use of tactics be a benefit of a grassroots club? Well, if your talking

about actual tactics, then they will have (and should have) very little use. If a coach

starts to work on tactics with any players below 16, then the technical development

may suffer. However what a grassroots club could use instead of tactics

from day one is implementing a style of play or a philosophy that each age group

works towards. Too many times I see grassroots clubs having no real identity or

way of playing. If everyone was working towards developing skilful, technical players,

then the club and players would develop much quicker.

    3: The Rui Faria Method...

Have you ever seen a pianist run around his piano before sitting down to unleash a

masterpiece? In our methodology we don't send them on laps around the pitch either'.

For Mourinho and his right- hand man/physical trainer Rui Faria, the gym is only for

recovering from injuries. - Jose Mourinho

I have highlighted this many times on Twitter . How many times do you see warm-ups
conducted of player running laps around the pitch? Sprinting from one cone and back,
second cone and back. These methods are outdated, unjustified and harmful!
A grassroots club should develop a philosophy that players become fit using the ball. If we are to develop future technical players, clubs must move away from old school methods. Educating the coaches to understand the modern day game - the modern player.

4: The ball is obligatory - Training sessions are no more than 90 minutes...

'My training sessions aren't long, they're dynamic and incredibly time-efficient.

I like my team to learn to love the ball, and to know what to do with it once they win

it back. Three hour training sessions will only serve to bore the players.

They would quickly fall out of love with the ball'. - Jose Mourinho

Most grassroots clubs only have an hour to train once per week, therefore training for
more than 90 minutes isn't an issue. However what is an issue is what occurs during
that one hour period. Too many times club allow coaches to work on whatever they
want - which sometimes means a game. Small sided games are fine, however
there has to be an outcome and a reason as to why that session was conducted.
Was it to develop running with the ball, attacking, defending etc?

5: A team with no peaks in form...

Weekly training sessions are solely focused on the next game. There's no plan to

come good in December or May, no looking ahead. No plan to play better against

    the top teams. -Jose Mourinho

Grassroots clubs should never train in order to beat the opponent at the weekend.
Therefore commandment number 5 may not link to a club lower down the leagues.
However what a club could use here is developing players to perform and enjoy the
    game week in, week out.

6: Motivation comes from training, not from playing the big matches...

During his time in Portugal with Porto, there came a moment when the team were

    winning

everything domestically, with the danger of the players only being motivated for the
European ties. Here's how he overcame that potential obstacle. 'With a 4-3-3 formation,
space is perfectly occupied naturally, it isn't necessary for the players to be intelligent.
They don't have to think too much. With a 4-4-2 they are required to think because the
field is occupied irrationally, no-one is naturally open. With a constant need for tactical
disciplinecomes motivation, regardless of the importance of the match.'
Real Madrid fans knowwhat to expect there then. - Jose Mourinho

Commandment number 6 is crucial to the development of a player. Coaches should
conduct sessions in an environment that not only challenges the player to become
technically better, but also to motivate them to improve and to enjoy the session.
Even at the highest level, player can become demotivated. Grassroots clubs should
ensure that there philosophy is to develop player and to allow them to enjoy the game -
Not to win trophies or medals. That will come.

7: Study your opposition, but never play according to your rival...

We analyze our rivals and we try to imagine how they will play against us.

Using these thoughts we position certain players in certain positions according

to the oppositions strengths and weaknesses. But these are only positional details.

They don't interfere with our principles, or even with our system. - Jose Mourinho

Similar to commandment number 5, this may not have a direct influence on a

grassroots club. However what could be used here is the use of player analysis.

How many clubs record games and allow players to watch themselves and analyse

what was good, what they might have done in this situation etc. With the use of

camera phones, it's now easier than ever to record games for player development.

This would obviously have to be approved with the other team for CRB purposes.

8: The creative players are first to defend...

For me defending well is defending during the least amount of time possible.

It's to have the ball among your most creative players for as long as possible.

Having the initiative for as long as possible. This takes away the need for defensive actions.

But when the need to defend arises, everyone has a role to play. There are those
that say the creative players should be liberated of defensive duties. They know
nothing about football. All players need to know what to do with the ball and what
to do without the ball'. - Jose Mourinho

Commandment number 8 is closely linked to the very first - The only star is the team.

Sometimes coaches will allow the more gifted players to work less hard - giving

them special treatment. This can have negative effects on the players as some

will be getting treated better or different to others. Clubs must realise that every

player should be treated in the same way, with the same respect.

9: We begin to recover during the games...

After each game I like to give the players a days rest. It may not be the most appropriate

thing to do physically speaking, but it allows them to recover mentally. Unfortunately,

with so many games during a season this is rarely possible.

If the team plays how I
want them to, the players will start to recover mentally by
having total control of the ball. Instead of finishing the match mentally exhausted,
they would come off the pitch in a great
frame of mind, raring to go once more.

Therefore as incredible as it sounds, they need to start recovering during the game itself. -
    Jose Mourinho

Grassroots clubs must develop a philosophy and structure that safeguards children
from exhaustion or injury through over-playing. The 9th commandment is how Mourinho
allows his players to recover during matches. What's important for clubs lower down is
to ensure training sessions are appropriately planned, ensuring safety at all times.
It's also important there's enough time for recovery between training and match days.

10: One method fits all. From the first team to the youth team...

'The basic methodological concepts must be instilled in both the elite and the base.
At Porto I regularly met with the youth and reserve team directors to explain exactly
how all the different teams should play. That way no player gets lost when making
the step up. Everything is already trained into his mind'. - Jose Mourinho

Personally, I believe this commandment is the most important for any grassroots
club. As I mentioned earlier, many clubs have little direction and each team or coach is
left to do what he or she wants. This lack of direction stops players from developing and
improving. Therefore it's vital that clubs from the very youngest team to the oldest have a
style and philosophy that everyone believes in. This ensures that when a team moves

    SOCCER SCHOOL

    ROUND TOWN NEWS

Soccer School, which is based in Mil Palmeras, Orihuela Costa, Costa Blanca celebrated the end of their first soccer school year in the presence of the Councillor for Sport of Pilar de la Horadada, in an awards recognition soccer school ceremony.

Along with a host of other officials from the Town Hall and municipality's Sports Department, in charge of soccer or futbol as its known in the region. The setting of the prestigious event was the Castillo de Conesa in San Miguel de Salinas and over 200 people attended to honour their football school's pupils and parents.

The highlight of the evening was the recognition, by way of a presentation, to the Sport's Councillor Fransisco Andreo Vicente. They also thanked the Pilar de la Horadada Deportivo officials Marie Jose and Victor Perez Conesa as well as the children's favourite official Alberto and Soccer School boss Tony . The multi national team of children and their parents enjoyed a very special Spanish evening, along with some UK traditions, which allowed the children to meet the Father Christmas.

    UEFA
Soccer School is run by Tony who is one of the only fully qualified UEFA badge holders in the Costa Blanca said; "The evening showed that British and Spanish communities can stand shoulder to shoulder to support each other and their ambitions."
He continued;"This has been made possible by offering everyone, irrespective of language or playing ability, the chance to learn and interact with others." Tony added; "maria Jose has been instrumental in this partnership and I would like to send a personal thank you to her for making this possible for all these children. There are very few Soccer School coaches here in Spain."

Kai, one of Tony's stars of the future said "I love playing at Tony's Soccer School with all my friends. I've met all the Liverpool Football Club players when we were mascots recently for the Legends and Don Hutchinson even gave me his match boots! It was brilliant. Tony works really hard with us and he is a great coach."

As a Christmas present, the Town Hall of Pilar de la Horadada have supplied extra facilities for Tony's Soccer School including benches and bins for the children to use at the pitches in Mil Palmeras. The fantastic evening was rounded off with a trophy being presented to all the players by the Town Hall officials and everyone had a great evening. Liverpool FC Legends. Football is the winner with Liverpool FC Legends v Torrevieja Football Match, Costa Blanca, Spain.

Ex Liverpool Football Club players, PAUL WALSH, ROB JONES, JASON McATEER, JIMMY CASE, KENNY BROWN, JOHN WARK, BOB BOLDER, GARY GILLESPIE. Liverpool FC Legends, Liverpool Football Club, news about LFC Legend team, Ex Anfield stadium and the reds history

What a Football Fiesta it turned out to be, not so much a game of football between Liverpool FC Legends & Torrevieja, although the vast majority of the players had played the game at the very highest level, but an day on which many of the most famous names ever to wear a Liverpool shirt showed solidarity with a club at the other end of the footballing spectrum. It just went to show that regardless of all the hype there really area lot of genuine people in the game of football.

    LIVERPOOL FC LEGENDS

..... the score was not important, although judging from the occasional flying boot it was a game that both sides wanted to win, the fact that almost 1500 true supporters, including the Barcelona and the Madrid Reds, turned up to pay homage to their heroes at the Vicente Garcia stadium made the venture all worthwhile.

Perhaps the surprise of the day, after all his near misses wearing a Torry shirt, was the fact that it took an appearance wearing a Liverpool strip for Kenny Brown to find himself on the scoresheet at the ground for the very first time. Even Torrevieja's Councillor for sport, ex Olympic Gold Medalist Daniel Plaza got a game, although perhaps his loyalties should be called into question after he took the field for a quarter of the game wearing red.

The cheerleaders, Theatre train from Ipswich were superb as were the Torry mascots and the 30 or so young ballboys supplied by Tony's Soccer School.

The evening at the Punta Prima Restaurant also went rather well with the speech of the night coming from Alan Kennedy. He told one story of his first game in a Liverpool shirt. A pass to Alan Hansen was intercepted by a QPR forward who burst through to score the only goal of the game. When apologising after the game to his manager, Bob Paisley siply turned round and said 'Don't worry about it son. What a pity though they shot the wrong Kennedy'.

With the auction fetching euro 650 for a signed Torry shirt, euro 600 for a Steven Gerrard shirt and euro 180 for the signed matchball even the local charities were in clover by the end of what turned out to be a wonderful day

The statistics tell you all you need to know about the advantages of participating in athletics, says Caccamo, who received one of Harvard’s most prestigious graduate awards for innovation in social-service program design.

“Kids who participate in sports attend school more, are more community and civic minded, get in less trouble, and tend to be more successful in the workplace. They have done studies from corporate leaders in the country: The number who made honor role was less than 20% but those who played sports was 80%.”

Young athletes learn to work together, acquire leadership skills, get a sense of discipline and learn communication skills, Caccamo says. “All of these things are keys to success in the workplace.”

So how do you ensure your kids get all these benefits by staying in sports?

To understand why children and teens stay in sports, you have to understand why they drop out. The Number One reason: They’re not having any fun. Kids often join sports youth and soccer teams to be with friends and enjoy themselves, but at some point become overwhelmed by the pressure and the focus on winning.

To help ensure your kids stay in sports and enjoy the many benefits:

    • Be sure to separate your dreams from your child’s. Sometimes parents have different ideas about what they want from their child’s sports experience. These ideas can undermine their child’s experience.
    • Keep your expectations in check. Kids often take on your expectations as their own, and if they don’t achieve them, lose confidence.
    • Help kids manage their own expectations. If a young athlete begins a basketball game expecting to score 24 points, he’s likely to feel frustrated and disappointed.
    • Choose coaches and teams carefully. Be sure to interview potential coaches about their philosophy. It’s best, especially when children are younger, if coaches focus more on skill-building and on having fun than on winning.

We’ve got many more resources for ensuring your young athletes stay in sports and enjoy its many benefits at Kids Sports Psychology, Our resources include e-books written for both parents and young athletes, including:

    • Ten Ways of Thinking That Hurt Kids’ Confidence (for sports kids)
    • Post-Game Checklist for Parents: Boosting Kids’ Confidence
    • Focus to the Max (for sports kids)

You can also download audio and video programs that help you and your young athletes get the most out of taking part in youth sports. They include videos you can watch with your children and interviews with experts like Caccamo.

    Sheffield United Academy Trials
with TONYS SOCCER SCHOOL who attract all the best Football Academy Teams.Tonys Soccer School enjoyed a game against Sheffield United Academy which see them lose narrowly.

This Soccer School is renowned for playing against the biggest and best Academy sides from the UK, and this game was no exception. A full report of the game below........

Sheffield United FC Academy 1 v 0 Mil Palmeras, Tonys Soccer School.
The nerves contributed to the games quality and lack of goals, but although the result was against Mil palmeras the performance was certainly good enough to win this game.

Chance after chance came and went for the away side, but just couldnt convert pressure into goals. Although Mil Palmeras missing a number of key players due to holidays, the league winners are determined by those who perform each and every week in a season.Sheffield United FC Academy as always played good hosts, and Joshua Bratty now back to form with Connor Hirst again improving, the 3 points went Sheffields way.

Mil Palmeras slightly dissapointed with the result especially after beating probably the best side in this league Benejuzar last week. Many positives are taken and we look forward to playing hosts in the return league game in the New Year. Team Sponsor DGC Property Services.

Interested in playing against Tonys Soccer School please use the contact us form, alternatively if you would like to open links between either Tonys Soccer School & Sheffield United FC Academy, please use the contact us form.

    Other Weekly results.

    Mil Palmeras 4 v 3 Algorfa.
Mil Palmeras back to winning ways with a deserved win against Algorfa at Pilar, with Top Goalscorer Paige Pickford grabbing another free kick, and Algorfa scored to make it 1-1. Mil Palmeras pulled away in the second half with goals from Travis Preston, and Jamie Macdonald to make it 3-1 to the home side.

Algorfa hit back, but Mil Palmeras restored there 4-2 lead with a goal from Jake Scott to seal a win. Algorfa scored a late consolation goal but Mil Palmeras had more chance to put this game to bed. Karim Ferouli, played well, as did Nathan Done in Defence, to secure a win for this improving side. Team Sponsor Camfix UK. Player of the match Paige Pickford for leadership qualities.

    Athletico Catral 8 v 0 Mil Palmeras.
Our Mil Palmeras under 12's side would certainly be up against title chasing Catral, in the last game before the christmas Holidays. Mil Palmeras worked extremely hard in the first half and were certainly unlucky to be going in 2-0 down at half time. Ramudan & Martin certainly worked hard in defence, and Halliday worked tirelessly throughout.

A number of late goals from a physical Catral side took made the result more flattering, but all the players can only play there best and certainly did that today. James WP Played up front for the first time, after Captain Lewis Long, playing up an age group lead the line.

Mil Palmeras Manager Tony met with the League President before this match, who was pleased at such a delightful game and certainly enjoyed himself, and appreciated how we are laying the foundations for children to play football for many years to come. Player of The Match Shadi Abu Ramadan. Team Sponsor Coys Renta car, Torrevieja

    San Miguel 3 v 1 Mil Palmeras.
A San Miguel side who moved upto 3rd in the league, certainly had to work hard for this result. Mil Palmeras started the brightest and took the game to San Miguel with a goal from Luca Webb, with a thunderous shot to further increase his league tally.

Captain and Local, Bailey Tomlinson, certainly gave his all, but 2 goals for San Miguel come, following the referee giving handball against our goalkeeper, which certainly looked harsh. That summed up this local derby, and San Miguel who we have a great neighbourly relationship with welcomed our team.

Mil Palmeras could certainly play better, but needed more strength up front to really take this game to them. The players however enjoyed this last game of the year, and went off to celebrate at the xmas party on Saturday. Team Sponsor TJ Interiors Player of The match, Joe Justice.
