    Football Trials Introduction

Our Football Academy is being developed in order to invest in upcoming footballing talent and provide the network, coaching, health and lifestyle advice that each player needs to make a successful career in football. If you are looking for a career in football, and live in the our local catchment, then your best chance will be to join our fantastic Academy. The academy coaching team will be UEFA licence and members of the Football Association’s Licence Coaches Club.

    About this Football Club Academy

The Academy will offer an advanced football development and education program supported by expert and dedicated staff. The Academy will use advanced technology and coaching methods to develop their players. We are actively looking for upcoming talent to join the academy, and will or can be selective about trialists.

As part of our Academy philosophy we recognise our duty of care to support the community within projects and selected programmes. It is important that we can enable the academy to be within the heartbeat of the soccer community and share experiences with groups that the centre can support. Through our local relationships we will regularly observe players, games and school soccer and view this as a key aspect of identifying players for the Academy whilst transferring our knowledge and ability to the local community.

As an Academy that will embrace a multidisciplinary approach we will take real pride in providing detailed individual support around the key roles in strength and conditioning. As part of our coaching programme players will receive regular guidance with components that support the overall physical demands for the developing player. This is seen through players in the maturation phase, specialised support, pre and post-performance. Our approach to the players understanding of dietary requirements, hydration, pre-hab and recovery is at the very heart of developing the person. These core values are key in the person understanding the demands of performance whilst progressing as a person.

How to get a Football Trial at this Football Club & Academy

Opportunities for open trials for players in all age groups do become available at various times, please remember can be based on player ability. Once the trials have been completed, you will have to be selected to have a trial at the Academy, so it is important that players are spotted in the right places at the right times.

For some players, they prefer a direct approach sending in links to videos of themselves playing football, but it is worth bearing in mind that clubs receive thousands of these videos each week and simply don’t have time to watch them all and go about their daily business, so the most effective way of getting scouted for a trial at Academy is to join a local football club or School, playing football already is highly advised if you wish to progress to a higher level.

Our scouts will regularly select young players from football schools, clubs and sessions and invite them to trial at the development centres for our Academy or teams, and anyone can play in their football schools so it offers an open door for all to get spotted. It is also particularly good planning to take your child to football schools as soon as they are old enough, so it enables them to develop their talents in line with the same level as their peers.

16+ and Adult playing opportunities for selected players to progress through the playing ranks, under the watchful eye of the Football Academy Scouts and Club Team Management.

    Syllabus at Our Football Academy

The training program at this Academy will be broken into technical and tactical training, with a special module for Goalkeepers. The below demonstrates:

    • The professional development phase at the clubs Academy. Professional, Semi Professional feeder system.
    • The youth development phase at the Academy
    • The foundation phase at the Academy
    • The youth / professional development phase at the Academy
    • The foundation development goalkeeper phase at the Academy

Exploring the Future of Football at our Academy

Bio-Banding is an innovative way of grouping young football players according to their physical maturity rather than their age has been demonstrated to show big benefits when it comes to spotting hidden talent and reducing injuries.

Bio-banding is a strategy which has existed for a number of years but has only recently been trialled by clubs in the UK – groups players according to their maturity level. This means youth teams are mixed when it comes to ages, but roughly equal when it comes to how physically developed players are. It is designed to avoid the David and Goliath situation whereby a late developing child is pitched against an early developed child, who has an advantage in size and strength.

Advocates suggest bio-banding should not completely replace traditional practices which group players by age. But they suggest bio-banding can be an additional coaching tool used to better identify and retain talented yet late maturing athletes and can expose early and late developers to new challenges and learning opportunities.

The Football Academy at this Football Club is considered paramount to the club’s success and integral part of our football philosophy. Youth development is represented at board level through to our Academy Football Director.

    Our Football Mission

We have adopted a strategy to develop and coach the whole person to be world class. This approach is adopted throughout the club, youth to senior first team, staff to player. This is with the aim to develop not just the footballer/athlete but a rounded positive person in the community.

Our Football Academy will never consider itself finished or fully developed but consider its purpose to continually strive to set the standard of player support, and development (football, education and personal).

    Football Vision

The academy vision is to produce players for the first team, year on year, with the technical ability on the field to compete at the highest level domestically, and internationally.

The club will always hold the community close to its heart and therefore the off the field behaviour will set an exemplary standard in the community and nationwide.

The club will play a type of football that is considered ‘attractive’ and technical based whilst demonstrating the club’s 7 Pillars.

The academy will not be orientated on results but players will be expected to demonstrate the competitive behaviours and positive/growth mentality it takes to deal with the demands of professional football and life.

NB: The Club understands that although the desired goal is to create world-class footballers, this goal may not be achieved by all in the system – fulfilling potential is the goal.

7 Pillars of the Academy and Football Trial Opportunities

    Competitive environment for Football Trials

All generated from development and evident in overall performance.

    Technically driven excellence in Football

The structure of the syllabus is really focused on the technical demands of the modern game. As a result the delivery and sessions generated connect the individual to the game, with great emphasis to become technically outstanding footballers.

This maybe movement patterns related to the game, cognitive understanding and thought processes, emotional intelligence to fulfil the demands of elite performance and personality of the player.

    Reflection driven and Football Analysis

The systematic approach enables regular dialogue and feedback generated. Players receive honest feedback that can support short and long term goals. Evidence of performance is needed to be part of the players understanding and to strive to develop.

We want our players to strive to improve all forms of their personality and value the great opportunity they have within the academy and as young people that are at the very early staged of their careers.
Our  Academy offers an advanced football development and education programme supported by expert and dedicated staff.

    • Male and Female Football Development Trial Opportunities.

The academy specialises in the individual, this is evident very early in the session. The arrival activity is individualised and the tempo, expectations, feedback and interaction within the session allow the player to perform to a high standard and really take pride in their own performance.

    Individual player focused delivery

The ethos of this Football Academy is the individual is at the centre of the delivery and journey. This bespoke service really enables players to understand where they currently are within their game, what the focus of delivery is in relation to their game and how they can achieve the required expectation. All generated from development and evident in overall performance.

    Technically driven excellence in Football

The structure of the syllabus is really focused on the technical demands of the modern game. As a result the delivery and sessions generated connect the individual to the game, with great emphasis to become technically outstanding footballers.

    Outstanding Football Player basics

As the academy fulfils a multi-disciplined approach there is real emphasis on general outstanding fundamentals. This maybe movement patterns related to the game, cognitive understanding and thought processes, emotional intelligence to fulfil the demands of elite performance and personality of the player.

Coach football ability to support player development

The academy delivers a relevant and professional service to support the player. This requires players to want to be part of that journey. Do they want to engage in development? Can they retain information? Are they proactive with their own performance? Can they be resilient and understand disappointment whilst striving for achievement?

    Reflection driven and Football Analysis

The systematic approach enables regular dialogue and feedback generated. Players receive honest feedback that can support short and long term goals. Evidence of performance is needed to be part of the players understanding and to strive to develop.

    Personal Football Player expectations

Part of the academy is to develop people. Can the player gain greater life skills, performance tools to enhance preparation and post recovery? We want our players to strive to improve all forms of their personality and value the great opportunity they have within the academy and as young people that are at the very early staged of their careers.
Our  Academy offers an advanced football development and education programme supported by expert and dedicated staff. The Academy uses advanced technology and coaching methods to develop their female players. We are actively looking for upcoming talent to join the Academy. Players under 16 predominantly must live within 1hr (young players) to 1hr, 30 minutes distance from training venue.

How to get scouted by one of our Football Academy Scouts and get Football Trials?

Our scouts will offer players the chance to trial. Many players are lucky enough to find themselves in the right places when scouts are watching games, but we are very aware that good talent can slip through the net, so the Academy will offer players the chances to directly contact them.

The new academy gives talented footballers a clear progression route into the professional game, playing for the club’s reserve team and ultimately the chance to play for Gateshead FC’s first team.

The Gateshead FC Academy will enable the club to attract and bring in high-quality players who have come through the local boys clubs or have been released from higher league clubs including Newcastle United, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, providing a huge long-term benefit to the club.

As part of the new academy structure, there will also be the formation of two new academy sides for 16-18-year-olds, enabling the club to attract and develop players below the age of 18. In developing the new academy, the club has chosen to work in partnership with Gateshead College to ensure all academy players not only receive the highest level of professional training but also a recognised qualification. Players will study on a course of their choice at the college.

Mike Williams, Operations Director at Gateshead FC said: “Our new academy provides promising skilled footballers with the opportunity to be part of a professional club. It’s vital to nurture and retain homegrown talent here in the North East and our new academy structure will enable this to happen.

“Our academy will not only provide the players with the highest level of training and competitive matches on the pitch but also a strong education. That’s why we chose to partner with Gateshead College who has a proven track record in ensuring their students achieve fantastic results.”

Gateshead FC have worked closely with Gateshead College in recent years, with a number of the college’s Academy for Sport students going on to play for Gateshead FC’s first team including current players Tom White, Jon Mellish and Elliot Forbes.

Gary Middleton, Head Football Coach at Gateshead College said: “The new academy takes our long-standing partnership with Gateshead FC to a completely new level.

“It means we can fast-track the development of students at a younger age and also provides an opportunity for players of all abilities to feel part of a professional club.

“Unfortunately not all promising players will go on to have a career on the pitch which is why it’s important that they also study a qualification with us. This could be on one of our specialist sport courses or one of the many other courses we offer.”

Two under-18 academy teams, one first team and one reserve team will be introduced as a feeder into the Gateshead reserve side.

Recruitment for the Gateshead FC Academy will start soon.

A guide to the Elite Player Performance Plan

    What is the EPPP?

The Elite Player Performance Plan is an ambitious long-term vision with the aim of giving English football the ability to create the best Academy system in the world, allowing clubs to produce more and better quality home grown players.
It has been developed after consultations with Academy Managers, Premier League clubs, the Football League, the Football Association, and other key stakeholders within the game.

Football Academies were audited by an external company Double pass, judged against the EPPP’s classification system, and put into one of four categories – the highest of which will give clubs more opportunity to extend its elite environment and make more strategic decisions.

The new classification replaced the old two-tier model of Academies and Centre of Excellence systems, and has seen a major change in the way that youth football is delivered in this country.

    Classification

Category One - Regular graduation of players into the Premier League and wider professional game with up to 8,500 coaching hours

Category Two - Graduation of players into the Premier League and Championship from time to time and regular graduates into the wider game with up to 6,600 coaching hours

Category Three - Graduation of players regularly into the professional game predominantly in Leagues one and two and players potentially capable of progression into Cat One and Cat Two Academies with up to 3,600 coaching hours

Category Four - Graduation of players into the professional game League two and semi-professional level with up to 3,200 coaching hours

The Premier League, The Football League and the Football Association invest an increased amount of central income into Youth Development nationwide, so the higher the classification given to the club in the EPPP following the independent audit, the more funding is made available to the club, alongside signification financial commitments from the clubs at each category.

    Key Principals

There are six fundamental principles that have been highlighted as key to the success of the EPPP, and will be achieved by focusing on coaching, classification, compensation, and education.

    1. Increase the number and quality of home grown players gaining professional contracts in the clubs and playing first team football at the highest level.

    2. Create more time for players to play and be coached.

    3. Improve coaching provision.

    4. Implement a system of effective measurement and quality assurance.

    5. Positively influence strategic investment into the Academy System demonstrating value for money.

    6. Seek to implement significant gains in every aspect of player development.

A focus of the EPPP is to allow players more time to practice with their coaches, as well as fostering links with local schools to not only aid players in their development as a footballer, but also to help nurture young players from an academic point of view.

    NORTHAMPTON TOWN FC ACADEMY TRIALS

The trials are mainly aimed at under 7s to under 14s, players older than that can apply but those aged 14 and over are likely to be offered advice and guidance rather than a trial

Supporters will be aware of the terrific progress we have made within our Youth set up in recent years due to a lot of hard work and effort from the staff and we continue to be excited at the young prospects coming through the system.

However identifying and coaching young players starts from an ever younger age, our Academy Squads start from the age of 8 upwards and over the last few years we have working hard to identify how we can improve our system.

Every parent and grandparent want their budding young stars to be given the best possible opportunity to play at the highest level, yet many are confused as to the many options open to them. Our Progressive Youth Development System (PYDS) allows a young player can progress from the junior leagues right the way through to a professional contract. It introduces our Coaching Centres (open to all) and also how talented players can be invited to our Development Centres run both by the club's Football in the Community scheme and our Academy coaches (Advanced and Elite). Boys attending any of these three development centres can be recommended straight through to our Acadmey squads.

Many parents are attracted by offers from 'bigger' clubs to send their children to attend their academies and coaching schemes but experience tells us that too many young players can get lost in oversized squads and schemes which perhaps concentrate too much on quantity not quality. Our intention is to make sure that each young player is given the best possible chance of succeeding, and we can give youngsters the best possible chance of making it to the very top.

If you have a young potential superstar in the house or family and you want to make sure that they get the best possible coaching and advice to enable them to enjoy their football and develop their talents then for the first time we are able to offer a complete and structured programme for them to participate in.

    PLAYER DEVELOPMENT CENTRES

Our new Player Development Centres are up and running and we have been delighted with the response. We have had excellent feedback both in terms of the standard of player we have recruited and the standard of coaching. There are still a limited number of places available in our Development squads, and we are currently offering free trials to anyone who wants to play for the club. The trials are mainly aimed at under 7s to under 14s, players older than that can apply but those aged 14 and over are likely to be offered advice and guidance rather than a trial.

Any player joining our Development Centre can play and train with their local clubs but receive Academy standard coaching from our coaches.

    AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

The Northampton Town Academy are offering After School Clubs, where schools, parents or clubs can arrange for the club's Academy coaches to attend a venue and deliver a coaching session. These are already being held in venues in Northampton, Wellingborough, Kettering, Milton Keynes, Rugby, Daventry and beyond. Not only do the youngsters benefit from the coaching, but any who are deemed to be of the necessary standard are offered the chance to join our Development Centre while they keep playing for their local team.

    SKILL CLUB

This is held at Goals in Northampton each Monday evening from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. Our Academy coaches deliver a technical session based purely on skill and a number of 1 v1 or 2v2 practice drills. You can pay as you go at £5 per session with discounts available for term or annual block bookings. This information has been supplied by http://www.ntfc.co.uk/team/academy/

    • Male and Female Football Development Trial Opportunities.

    Trials

Whilst we would want to put all our players forward for trials this is unfortunately not possible.  There is a lot of competition out there which is why we need to ensure that you are 100% fit and ready in order to attend.

We would like to make it clear that there is no guarantee that you will go for a trial, it all depends on how hard you work, how enthusiastic you are, how well you listen to your coaches and take things on board and whether we feel you are physically and mentally ready.  The coaching staff have regular meetings to discuss individual players and whether we think you are ready or not.

Trials are extremely tough and so we have to be absolutely sure, for our benefit and yours, that you have what it takes so we only send players who we believe stand a good chance of passing.

We try to make sure the venue is accessible to the player but this would be discussed with you at that time.

There are also the occasional trial matches which are attended by scouts from all over the UK.

It can be very hard for players who are not offered a trial or if a player attends by fails. The important thing to remember is, never lose hope!  Keep working hard and we will do all we can to help you, that is what we are here for!

You must also be realistic and be prepared to start at a lower level.  This does not mean that you will never make it as a professional as any football you play at the Academy can be watched by scouts. You never know who is watching you, which is why it is important to play to your best ability at all times.

    Matches

We often get requests for friendly matches against Semi-Professional Clubs so there will be the occasional match played however the main aim of the Academy is to get players fit for trials.

Guiseley AFC – Our club’s history,

This information has been kindly submitted by Guiseley AFC Archive.

    GUISELEY AFC FOOTBALL TRIAL

Wharfedale FA Cup Runners-Up Medal 1911-12, donated in 2012 by Andrew Dalton

    Beginnings

Founded in 1909 by a local group of enthusiasts, the club’s first success came in 1913 when they won the local Wharfedale League. Following the end of the First World War the club switched to the Leeds League, achieving little until 1924 when another switch, to the West Riding County Amateur League, eventually brought success. A treble of league championships followed in the 1930s as well as two appearances in the last 16 of the old F.A. Amateur Cup, against South Bank in 1932 and Cambridge Town (now City) in 1934.

    Consolidation

A fourth league title was won in 1939, after which seventeen years were to elapse before the fifth, achieved in 1956. It was followed by another switch, to the West Yorkshire League, which heralded a remarkable run of success in the local Wharfedale Challenge Cup, the trophy being won on nine out of ten occasions in the 1960s.

    Success

Higher status was gained in 1968 with the club entering the Yorkshire League, and after moderate success  the Division Two championship was won in 1976. Promotion to the First Division followed, with runners-up position achieved in 1980 along with a League Cup success over champions Emley. Success also arrived in the West Riding County Cup with a hat-trick of trophies won in 1979/80/81. 1981 also saw the club’s first taste of F.A.Vase mania, reaching the quarter-finals before losing at home to eventual finalists Willenhall Town.

    Improvement

Following the set-up of the non-league pyramid system in 1982, the Yorkshire League merged with the Midland League to form the Northern Counties East League, with Guiseley placed in the Premier Division at its inception. Moderate progress was again made, with third place achieved in 1985 and again in 1986. Off the field, the installation of floodlights in 1988 enabled the club to set its sights on achieving higher status.

    Vase Win and Promotion

The 1989/90 season proved to be the springboard for a very successful period for the club, with the signing of the former England international Frank Worthington and a first F.A.Vase Semi-Final appearance. Defeat against rivals Bridlington Town was soon forgotten as the following season saw the club go one better, not only reaching the famous Wembley twin towers but featuring in a never-to-be-forgotten 4-4 draw with Gresley Rovers. The trophy was won three days later with a 3-1 replay victory at Bramall Lane, Sheffield. Further success was achieved that season with a League and Cup double and promotion to the Northern Premier League.

Another milestone in the club’s history was passed in 1991 with the First Round Proper of the F.A.Cup being reached for the first time, a 0-1 defeat to Football League Chester City at Macclesfield, their temporary home at the time.

A further visit to Wembley in the F.A.Vase sadly saw the trophy relinquished to Dorset side Wimborne Town as spectators witnessed another eight-goal epic as the Lions went down 3-5.

Good progress was made in the N.P.L., with fourth place achieved in the first two campaigns and the First Division Cup lifted in 1993. Under the guidance of Ray McHale, 1993/94 proved another exceptional season with the First Division title won along with promotion to the Premier Division.

An even greater feat was to reach the semi-finals of the F.A. Challenge Trophy against Runcorn (then a Conference side), where only a stoppage-time goal in extra time of the second leg cruelly robbed Guiseley of a third Wembley appearance in four years. Consolation was gained by becoming the first Division One side  to lift the N.P.L. President’s Cup, defeating Leek Town over two legs.

    Northern Premier Years

Elevation to the Premier Division saw the club gain a record-breaking 93 points and third position in its first campaign as well as reaching the first round of the F.A. Cup ,where a home tie against Carlisle United, switched to Valley Parade, produced a club attendance record of 6,548.

Sadly, the latter half of the 1990s turned out to be something of an anti-climax, with a sole West Riding County Cup win in 1996 and N.P.L. President’s Cup final defeats in 1996 and 1998. However, following the appointment of Bobby Davison as Player/Manager during the second half of the 1997/98 season a fresh impetus was provided as a number of the club’s promising young reserve players were blooded into the squad. A very creditable third place in the Premier Division of the Unibond League was achieved at the end of the 1998/99 season, alongside a first appearance in the final of the League Challenge Cup.

But fortunes took an unexpected turn for the worse the following season with relegation suffered for the first time in the club’s NPL membership, resulting in Davison’s being replaced by his assistant, Neil Parsley.

2002/03 provided an excellent FA Cup run when, despite languishing at the foot of the table, Guiseley achieved a fourth appearance in the First Round proper of the competition with a visit to Second Division Luton Town. Although they suffered a 0-4 defeat, the cup run boosted the club’s finances as well as providing some memorable matches, notably the 3-2 replay victory at Tamworth.

Season 2004-05 saw the club back in the Premier Division as a result of the restructuring of non-league football and the club gained its first silverware of the new millennium in the shape of the West Riding County Cup.

    New Beginnings

Off the field the club saw its tie-up with local junior clubs bear fruition, with FA community club charter status achieved during early 2005. As a result, a new floodlit third generation surface all-weather training area to replace the old tennis court area adjacent to the ground was opened in September 2006.

In November 2006 former Bradford City boss Terry Dolan arrived as manager and the Unibond League Chairman’s Cup was won, the Unibond League Fair Play award also being lifted for the second successive season although the much-coveted promotion to the Conference remained elusive.

Steve Kittrick took over from Dolan in November 2007, but for a while the succession of near-misses continued, although April 2009 saw a run of wins including a first success in the Unibond Challenge Cup, a thrilling a 3-2 extra time victory over Ilkeston Town. The run, and the dream of promotion, ended only in a tense Play-off Semi Final defeat at Nantwich.

    Centenary Celebrations

The Club’s Centenary season in 2009/10 saw massive ground developments with a new seated stand, lights and terracing installed. Approaching the end of the season, Guiseley were in pole position to achieve elevation to the Blue Square North division after defeating promotion rivals Bradford Park Avenue twice in four days. Three defeats followed, however, one to co-rivals Boston, meaning that they went into the final game against Ashton United needing to win and for Boston’s and Avenue’s results to go their way. Guiseley ended up beating Ashton comfortably 2-0 while the other two dropped points, meaning the Lions were Champions and promoted to their highest-ever position in their centenary year. After a number of heart-stopping minutes between the final whistle and confirmation of the other results, the celebrations could begin.

    09/10 Unibond League Table – http://evostikleague.pitchero.com/archive-243/

    Unknown Territory

The 2010/11 season saw Guiseley make their bow in the Blue Square North and it went on to become the club’s most successful season. Despite losing their opening game to Nuneaton, the momentum that followed promotion propelled them to the upper echelons of the league table. Over the first half of the season Guiseley’s league form was impeccable and led to a 19-game unbeaten run. The New Year began well with successive 1-0 victories over Harrogate Town and Hyde FC but the Lions entered their sticky patch at the beginning of March, going six games without a win until overcoming fellow-contenders Nuneaton away from home. Guiseley were picking up points again and achieved a fifth-place finish, putting them in the play-offs, three games away from back-to-back promotions.

They managed to overcome Boston United in the first leg of the semi-final, thanks to a piledriver from Warren Peyton. It meant the Lions visited the Jakemans Stadium for the second leg full of confidence and dreaming of the final. What followed was one of the most tense, thrilling and nerve-wracking encounters that the club has ever been involved in. Boston took the lead early on and maintained it till half-time. Shortly after the break, Gavin Rothery netted to put Guiseley back on top on aggregate before Anthony Church levelled just as Guiseley began to dream of the final. Extra time ensued, and when Darryn Stamp lashed the ball past the Boston goalkeeper in the 108th minute Guiseley had one foot over the line. United had other ideas however, and Danny Davidson headed past goalkeeper Steven Drench to send the tie to penalties. Guiseley triumphed thanks to penalties from James Walshaw, Stamp and Warren Peyton along with two saves from Drench and the woodwork denying Adam Boyes. Guiseley were in the play-off final.

The final would take place at the home of AFC Telford United, and once again it proved to be a rollercoaster of emotions. United started the better and took the lead through a controversial penalty. The scores were level shortly before half-time with James Walshaw keeping cool to fire home the equaliser from the penalty spot. An even first half saw the sides go in at one apiece. Guiseley came out for the second half refreshed and were on top for large parts of the remainder of the game.  The pressure eventually paid off when Walshaw jinked down the left-hand side and stood up a cross for Darryn Stamp to head home, sending the away support into raptures. Guiseley were almost there.

However, injuries and fatigue began to take their toll in what was a frenetic game, showcasing all that is good about non-league football, and all the while the home side kept plugging away at the Guiseley goal. The tide began to turn, and AFC Telford eventually broke through to equalise before going on to break Guiseley hearts with what was essentially the last kick of the game. The Lions had been eleven minutes from the top tier of non-league football.

On top of their league achievements, Guiseley also enjoyed good runs in the F.A. Cup, where they eventually lost out to Crawley Town, and the F.A. Trophy, where they were edged out 1-0 by Luton Town. The one piece of silverware added to the Nethermoor cabinet was the West Riding County Cup, Thackley being overcome at Valley Parade.

“We can’t take anything away from this season though because it has been a massive one for the club and we have all enjoyed it”, manager Steve Kittrick remarked following the culmination of an unbelievable season for the club.

2011- 2012 was another successful season with the team finishing as runners up in the Blue Square Bet North, its highest ever league position, but was followed by another play off defeat, this time to eventual play-off winners Nuneaton Town.

The West Riding County Cup was retained however, a second seated stand was built, and further ground development took place as the club continues to strive for further elevation in the football pyramid.

    History of Guiseley Ladies FC

Guiseley Ladies Football Club was officially linked with Guiseley AFC in May 2005. The club affiliated to the West Riding Girls Premier League that season and successfully finished the year as champions.

They gained promotion to the North East Division One South as a result. and subsequently achieved a long-term sponsorship deal with Peco Print and Embroidery Limited in Leeds. The ladies team attracted a host of players from the surrounding clubs, and continued their rise up the leagues by gaining a second promotion in as many years to the North East Regional Women’s Premier League.

In 2007/08 the ladies played their first season in the North East Premier League, and finished a respectable fourth place. The club has gone from strength to strength, and with excellent coaching and management staff in place the club is aiming for National League status in a ten-year development plan. It will involve developing a reserve and development squad in that period.

In the 2008/09 season, the team entered the Women’s FA Cup for the first time. They successfully beat off several teams to reach the second Round Proper. They were then knocked out by National League side Derby County Ladies FC, but their achievement earned them the ‘Team of the Round’ Award from The Football Association, now proudly displayed in the clubhouse.

Following the fantastic FA Cup run, the team then reached the County Cup semi-Final where they met Leeds Carnegie Ladies FC. This fixture proved to be a bridge too far, although the ladies gave a solid and determined performance.

The club welcome any players interested in playing for the club. Alternatively, if you are a volunteer and interested in becoming involved in any of the committee positions at the club, including the new fundraising officer role, please email or telephone the club secretary anytime.

Leiston FC are delighted to confirm that for new season we have entered the Ryman League Under-21 (North Division) and player trial sessions have been arranged.
This fantastic opportunity will provide an environment that will develop our young, aspiring first team players. By becoming part of the wider first-team squad, the younger players will be immersed in the necessary levels of performance, commitment and expectations required to progress in the semi-professional game, thus into our first team and possibly beyond.
Three over-aged players will be permitted, with what is expected to be a much higher standard, which may include returning regular first-team players from injury or first-team players needing playing time in a competitive environment.
We intend to train on Thursday evenings with our home games scheduled for Thursdays. The league is expected to be made up of 11 teams. As part of the diet of football offered by the club appropriate loan periods with quality first-team clubs will be sought to ensure our young players’ development is carefully considered.
Trial by invite will be held at the club on Thursday. Players should bring appropriate clothing, footwear and shin pads.
There are a limited number of places at the trial and all players must register their interest to receive an application with David Cannon at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
