Tell us about your football history (Min 100 words) : I began playing football at U7's for Long Lane JFC where I experienced much success, winning countless trophies with the team during my time there. My father was posted to Germany with the British Forces in 2009 where I joined a local German side MTV Eintracht Celle. While at this team I also enjoyed success in the league, and sometimes was selected to play for older teams as and when needed. I was also chosen for a special select 11 to represent promoters at the Danone Nations cup in 2010 and completed a series of training sessions at Eintracht Frankfurt as a part of this. When we moved within Germany I transferred to VfL Theesen and have been with them now for three seasons. In my first season I helped my team secure the local cup competition title by scoring a hat-trick in just three minutes, as well as being named the top goal scorer for the league in the same year. Last year I joined the U15 team a year early, enjoying accelerated training and gaining experience in the Regionalla West league (the highest league for this age group in Germany). This year I continue to play in this league with the new U15 team and play against teams such as Borussia Dortmund, Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen. When I first came to Germany I was also selected for the DFB Academy programme, which I am still a part of today. I train with the local programme (DFB Stutzpunkt Bielefeld) once a week, including regular fitness and skills testing, as well as representing them at tournaments and friendlies. We also participate in scheduled training camps throughout the year. As well as playing for my current club VfL Theesen and Stützpunkt Bielefeld, I also play regularly for my school team, as well participating in annual summer training camps held by Newcastle United FC Academy Coach Doug Thoburn.
Write about your Playing Ability (Min 50 words) : Ever since I picked up a ball and started to kick it, football has been the main core of my life. I am committed not just to the game, but in continuing to maintain, better and add to my skills and knowledge. I believe I am a great reader of the game and am able to see a situation before it happens. I am always 150% committed, focused and psyched up for each game, no matter who the opponent. I am a great team-player often looking to set up others rather than selfishly go it alone, although I also am keen to make my mark in the box. Although forward is my preferred and most effective position I am also comfortable on the wing or in the middle of the park, as well confident to cover defensive roles when needed. Creating play and space in attacking movements is my most effective place. I am also not afraid to put in that perfectly timed tackle. Over the years, I have continued to pick up and improved on a variety of abilities helping to better my game. For example, I started off playing as a left midfielder. For me to adapt to this position I had to work on my pace and agility to enable me to pass defender’s with confidence. Another trait I picked up and worked on was the ability to be able to cross the ball with the inside and outside of my foot, comfortably placing the ball exactly where I wanted it to be (head, foot or into space). Carrying on from that I have continued to worked on my vision of the game. Being able to pick out a pass or aim for a goal scorer area, under pressure or while I have time on the ball is something I am comfortable in doing. As I have got older I have used all my abilities to move up the pitch into a forward/striker position. I feel that while I have played up front I have been able to further enhance my skill, fitness and knowledge of the game and apply this to good use during the game. My first touch has vastly improved over the years and I feel that I am always a reliable option to be picked out anywhere on the pitch, not for just a good pass or a shot on goal, but also as a header for goal, as I have scored a lot of goals with my head recently. I’m also happy with my improvement on my ability to find the back of the net and being comfortable taking on a shot when the opportunity arises. Being named top goal scorer as the only English boy in a German league has really helped in growing my confidence which I feel is a very important ability in football because you need the confidence to beat an opponent or shoot at goal. One moment that I will remember in a match was picking up the ball about 10yards in my own half, I passed to a team mate who then passed back first touch, after receiving the pass I then had the strength and close control to beat 4-5 players, getting into the opposition box to take a touch past the keeper and defender and slott the ball into the back of the net. I’m proud of this particular goal simply because it showed a lot of my overall abilties... Strength, pace, close control, vision, confidence and shooting. Although I am predominantly a left-footed player, I have continued to work on my skill, control and shooting with my right foot and am now equally as confident using both feet for outfield play as well as shooting.
Why should an Academy Director give you a trial (Min 50 words) : My commitment, desire, knowledge and passion of and for the game, as well as my wish to continue to learn and develop, I believe makes me a good addition to any team. As well as being committed to my training and team, I am equally committed to my education and the importance of maintaining my grades to an acceptable level to enhance my future prospects. My previous experience playing within the highest regional junior league in Germany, against teams such as Borussia Dortmund, FC Schalke 04, Bayer Leverkusen, Arminia Bielefeld and Hannover 96, has given me the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the world and allowed me to adopt a different style of play and enhance my technique. My knowledge and skill in both English and German football technique, tactics and style of play fused together, I believe gives me an edge and would make me a fantastic addition to any team.
