Write about your football history : I started playing football like most people at around 7 years old. On pitch I was an average player, I could score and tackle to a reasonable standard. I worked out, by going in goal; I would get to play more games so I offered to go there. I went to a Basingstoke summer football camp and went in goal. I really enjoyed that too, which made me want to go in goal even more. Throughout the years I stayed there. I have massively improved and gained experience over time. I have played for 3 different teams in that time, my current team I have been with since the age of 9/10. When I was a toddler, I used to kick everything around, balls, bits of wood, cans etc. That’s all I ever wanted to do in those years, kick a ball. In September 2012, I was invited by ‘Jeremy Newton’ who was the Swindon U13 Academy Manager to join them for training. I attended this training two or three times a week, one day training with the team the other days training with the actual Goalkeeper coach. At the time I was 12 years old, the other boys (goalkeepers) training with me were 15 and up. I actually played 3 or 4 games for the U13 Academy, playing half a game with the ‘regular U13 keeper’ playing the other half. I conceded 2 goals in total. The regular goalkeeper did concede more. However, I left Swindon because at the time, it was very difficult to get there on time as my parents hours were different to as they are now. I also felt I could not progress as quickly as the goalkeepers that were 3 or 4 years older than me.
Write about your Playing Ability : My general ball skills are of a good standard. General Ball control etc (I will occasionally go on pitch in quiet games). But, my strengths are definitely in goal. I have the advantage of having been coached in the past by Swindon’s goalkeeper coach and occasional other coaches specialising in goalkeeping. They had all commented in the past on my ability, but at the time I was quieter and less confident in myself. I am often commented to after matches by opposing players, supporters and managers. Mainly on my overall play and distribution. I watch goalkeepers of TV all the time, and feel I really do pick up some good points from them.
Why should an Academy Director give you a trial : I would love the chance to Trial again. I did have the chance with Swindon, but my family situation at the time made it very difficult. Now though, my parent’s jobs are different, even my grandparents are now retired and could take me. It was just all at the wrong time. I think god goalkeepers are hard to come by but I think I could have a lot to offer.
