Tell us about your football history (Min 100 words) : I played football throughout my childhood years but it wasn't until 1998 that I professionally joined my local hometown club, Golden Stars. At the time, I was played as a right winger. As it was a grass root club in Nigeria, we only played matches against nearby grassroot clubs. In 2002, when I left my locality for University, I joined Sharp Shooters FC. That was also a local club near the University I attended. There, I was played as a Defensive/Central Midfielder. Training sessions here were more organised, having 4x 2hr sessions per week. Matches were also more diverse and challenging than in Sharp Shooters. After Uni, (2006) I went back to my former club and played there as a Defensive Midfielder. 2 years later, I joined a more technical local club, Sketchers FC. Although, Sketchers FC was also a local club in Kaduna, Nigeria, the club gave me more exposure than any of my former clubs. 5 training sessions a week and a match on every weekend ensured enough playing time for all players. I also played there as a defensive midfielder. And it was during this time that my love for the position grew. In 2010, I signed my first official contract to play for Golden bees FC which is mostly famous in Kaduna, Nigeria for its signing off of players to top clubs in the Nigerian Premier League like Ranchers Bees, Kaduna United, Kano Pillars and many more. Golden Bees FC is affiliated to most of the Northern clubs in the Nigerian Premier League. I gained a lot of experience from the club, featuring in several matches against clubs in the Nigerian Premier League like Kaduna United and Ranchers Bees. Most of my time in Golden Bees FC, I played as a Right Back but occasionally played in Center Mid. My contract with the club ended last year (2012) just before I moved to England for further studies. I am currently without a club but play for University of Sussex school team in Brighton.
Write about your Playing Ability (Min 50 words) : As i have played as a defensive midfielder for most of my football career, I grew to love the position and feel very comfortable in that role. I feel I possess the stamina and strength needed to press high up the pitch in offense and also quickly recover back to support my defense. I also think I have the basics of ball control, passing and tackling which are essential for midfield play. However, over the past years, I have also grown to understand that a player can not accurately assess his own playing ability or most efficient position as different managers use different systems and style of play. I think I have the ability to quickly adapt to change of position, role, or style of play. Most particularly because of the way I quickly adapted to playing from Defensive Midfield to Right Back during my time in Golden Bees FC. I may not be the most skillful or fastest player on the pitch, but I strongly believe I have the exposure and experience to play at any level anywhere in the world.
Why should an Academy Director give you a trial (Min 50 words) : I believe my experience on the pitch is a good enough factor to stand me out in any trial. I have a good understanding of what coaches want to see on the pitch and also keep myself fit and condition my body to ensure that I deliver the goods when it most counts. I also believe physical fitness is another area I will beat most of my counterparts. I've been to a couple of trials in Nigeria and I have a superficial knowledge of how they are conducted even though I'm fully aware the systems in England may be slightly or completely different. This knowledge makes me very confident of acing the trials if I do get one.
