PASS FROM THE BACK
Difficulty - Advanced
PLAY FOOTBALL FROM DEFENCE COACHING PLAN in an 11 a-side match. When I'm coaching, and scouting, I see many coaches insist on getting the ball 'hoofed' down field well away from the goal. The reason for this, is that they as coaches, and the players have no confidence in there ability to pass from the back. The only way that the players are going to gain this confidence, as well as the ability, is to practice playing out.Mistakes will occur! But the more they practice, the less mistakes, and the more enjoyable the game becomes. Enjoy the session.
Session Requirements
- 3/4 of a full sized pitch
- 1 large 11-a-side goal
- 2 mini goals if possible, if not, use cones
- Cones
- 19 players, but can be done with less
- Bibs
- Footballs
Information
- You can start off by the goalkeeper receiving the ball from the striker i.e. A poor shot. This is the start position.
- Once the goalkeeper has the ball, the left back must immediately pull wide and offer the ball.
- Once the ball is in mid-motion to the left back, the left midfielder must pull away as if to go down the line, then check back towards his goal, wrong footing the defending right midfielder. This creates space.
- Player C - the centre midfielder must attempt to lose his man, with wrong footing, or a burst of pace.
- Once the left back plays into the left midfielder, the left midfielder will play a quick, first time pass into the centre midfielder.
- The left midfielder (Player B) will then move quickly down the line, receiving a first time one-two off the central midfielder leaving him through down the line.
- Keep playing a normal game until this occurs again or breaks down.
- Defending yellows, simply try to win ball back and score.
- Red team to score in two small goals/cones
