Luke McCullogh is an accomplished defender who is building his reputation as a powerful, commanding presence.
The Portadown teenager is a centre-back and joins a collection of Northern Irish players now at Carrington after arriving from Dungannon Swifts.
Comparisons with Belfast-born United first-teamer Jonny Evans are inevitable, and Luke will hope he can follow in his fellow countryman's footsteps as makes his first significant strides towards the senior game.
A brawny stopper, he skippered the Academy side throughout the 2011/2012 campaign and only suffered one injury lay-off after being dogged by a long-term lay-off in the previous campaign.
Nonetheless, he made 25 appearances and was a permanent fixture at the back when fit, with his muscular presence important in helping to complement some of his smaller team-mates further up the field.
Short-listed for the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award, he will aim to make a splash at Reserves level now - he certainly has the physique to cope with the step up.
