In the Chelsea Academy since Under 9s, James is capable of playing full-back or as an attacking midfielder.

A technically accomplished player who reads the game well, he is in his second full-time year and signed professional in July 2010. However, following three youth team appearances last campaign, he suffered a cruciate knee injury.
