How do I get a trial at Southampton Football Club?
Like most clubs, we have a network of scouts who work for the club on a local, national, and international basis, as well as other contacts. The scouts look at players from under 6s up to professional levels and will make recommendations on players that we may consider to invite for a trial.
It is important to note that any Southampton Football Club Scout that approaches a player will have appropriate ID. Any approach from someone purporting to be from the club, but who does not have sufficient ID should not be taken seriously.
If you are approached and are unsure of the validity of the approach, please email the club at
Can I write in to be invited to an open trial?
At present it is not our policy to hold open trials. We always watch players at their local club/school based on recommendations before inviting them in for trial. Any player writing in for a trial to our email
How can I be sure that my talent has not been overlooked?
Rest assured, with literally thousands of scouts representing the various clubs, if you have the required level of ability, you should be spotted. Our scouts may or may not be wearing club branded clothing. Many people don't think they have ever had a scout at their games when in fact just the opposite could be true.
I have waited years to be spotted, should I give up?
Within reason it's never too late. Some players mature later than others, and lots of top class professionals have entered the game at a relatively late stage. Keep playing the highest standard of football possible, and never give up hope, above all always try your best as you never know who is watching!
Due to the high levels of correspondence we receive, we are unable to enter into communication and respond to everyone. Please do not repeatedly contact us, as we will keep your trial request on our files and will either be in touch or come along to one of your games if we feel you have the qualities and skills we require.
SOUTHAMPTON FC FOOTBALL TRIALS

About Southampton Academy
Southampton Academy offer an advanced football development and education programme supported by expert and dedicated staff. Southampton FC Academy is located at: Southampton FC Training Ground, Long Lane, Marchwood, Southampton, Hampshire, SO40 4WR
Southampton Academy use advanced technology and coaching methods to develop their players. They are actively looking for upcoming talent to join their academy, and are very selective about who gets in, as competition is tough.
With the changes that have taken place in the football academy system. Academy Category one clubs are now free (U12+) to recruit from all over the nation.
Previously, Category one clubs could only recruit talent within a 90 minute travelling time to the academy, but the FA have reconsidered this following thinking that the best talent should only fairly be allowed to play in the best academies even if they do not live nearby. This gives the very best talent the very best chances of success, thus growing our home grown talent for the international stage.
This has seen a rise in host families being recruited at Southampton FC Academy, to help house young promising talent in safe family environments.
Upcoming Fixtures at Southampton FC Academy
Southampton FC Academy has a whole programme of upcoming activities, fixtures and events. Check the times of each match or look up the match venue for any of the " target="_blank">Southampton Academy age group.
How to get a trial at Southampton Academy
You must be selected to have a trial at Southampton FC Academy, so it is important that players are spotted in the right places at the right times. For some players, they prefer a direct approach sending in links to videos of themselves playing football, but it is worth bearing in mind that clubs receive thousands of these videos each week and simply don’t have time to watch them all and go about their daily business, so the most effective way of getting scouted for a trial at Southampton Academy is to join a Southampton Soccer School. Scouts regularly select young players from soccer school sessions and invite them to trial at the development centres for Reading FC, and anyone can play in their soccer schools so it offers an open door for all to get spotted.
It is also particularly good planning to take your child to soccer schools as soon as they are old enough, as their competition will be doing the same, so it enables them to develop their talents in line with the same level as their peers.
How to get scouted by a Southampton FC Academy scout
Southampton FC Academy scouts offer players the chance to trial. Many players are lucky enough to find themselves in the right places when scouts are watching games, but Southampton are also very aware that good talent can slip through the net, so do offer players the chances to directly contact them with the below details.
