What is a Football Academy Centre of Excellence?
The Centre of Excellence is the second tier in the development structure. Its aim is to prepare players to play Pre-Academy football by replicating the coaching syllabus and methods used. In addition the coaches who work with the Pre-Academy teams also coach the Centre of Excellence teams to ease the transition for players.
What age are Football Academy Centre of Ecellence for?
Football Academy are the 2nd tier up and predominantly are for children under the age of 16. Ideally children who are at the end of primary school or in Comprehensive school years 6 to 11 in the UK system.
Where is it held?
There are a number of Centres of Excellences. These are based at various location throughout the UK and normally associated with a Football Club
How often do players train at a Centre of Excellence?
Generally once maybe twice a week, as players continue to play and train with their regular club sides.
How do I get selected for the Centre of Excellence?
By impressing at every opportunity you have to play football, either at your club or School, County Football team. Our advice is to attend holiday schools and tournaments operated by more well known football teams. Remember a scout can see you play at a number of locations. Our advice is that you should be playing regular weekly football.
Do players play for The Centre Of Excellence team?
Yes, there are around 6 to 10 games per season, mainly during school holidays.
Who are the coaches?
All coaches are UEFA B or C Licence qualified, and maybe independant coaches or coaches signed to one club.
This is a general overview of a football centre of excellence. Remember there are many levels to an academy and the centre of excellence is probably level 2 on the ladder, and is geared towards preparing young players and children aveue of professional football.
