A Mother's Day Football Challenge

It was a footballing feast for all the family at Tony's Soccer School on Mothering Sunday. Mums, Dads and their kids witnessed a splendid day of football fun and the highlight was a 'Daughters v Mums' match at the school's base in Mil Palmeras. The Daughters Team, with girls aged from 6 to 15, challenged the Ladies Team (made up mostly by their mums) to a football match to prove just how much the girls have improved recently.

Unfairly, only the highest standard of ladies were available for this match, but the girls proved more than a match for them with some fantastic play. The mums showed their superiority early on and their early pressure paid off. They surged into the lead with goals from Nicola and a wonderful Maria Fabien 20 yard volley. The girls, who looked fantastic in their new yellow kit, started to play like Brazil and two goals from Paige and one from Chloe Frame meant they were still in the game. The Mums, who swapped their designer wear for some classy football kits, certainly looked the part, and Teresa , along with some of the other Mums, had been secretly meeting up for additional training !

    GOALS GALORE
It was a warm, beautiful sunny day and it was the perfect setting for an exciting match and late on, it looked like all the hard preparation had paid off for the mums. More goals from Sharon Marshall and winger Bernie O'Rean meant the mums were leading 5-3, with ten minutes to go. However, the pressure started to tell and an own goal meant the girls had the ladies on the back foot !

The game ended with a well earned draw at 5-5 and Grace proudly received Player of the Match. Despite the extra training, the exhausted mums were desperate to hear the final whistle and were all grateful that the game had reached its conclusion. Tony, Head of the Soccer School, told Round Town News; "It was an absolutely fantastic day and was enjoyed by everyone. The love of Mother's Day was clearly on show here today."
He continued; "New names are being added for the re-match planned for April, but our Ladies are asking for a month's rest following a very close game. There were no bruised egos here, just a few bruised muscles, but the girls were on hand to ensure their mums all put their feet up for the rest of Mother's Day !"

A crowd of 100 people, including some very supportive Dads, meant the game, which was also sponsored by The Deli at La Fuente Commercial Centre,  and Kameeleon Printers, was a huge success. Tony concluded;"We would also like to thank the Costa Blanca Lodge of Tranquility No.52, the ladies' freemason lodge in Spain, for donating some Arsenal FC bibs for our Soccer School."
