Sports chosen for Academy status
The first trial for the newly formed Mickleover Sports Academy side took place
this week with many potential footballers turning up hoping for the chance to
earn a spot in the new setup that will take part in the inaugural NPL Football Academy
League in September. The trial started with a talk from representatives of the NPL Football
Academy who discussed in more detail what the programme entails before Sports captain
Liam Walsh delivered a session watched on by their parents and club officials.
The programme for 16-18 year olds is a two year educational and football training course
where students will study for a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport and train full time whilst
playing for the Mickleover Sports Academy side in the NPL Football Academy League -
the only semi professional academy league in the country where they will play against
fellow Evo-Stik league clubs such as Witton Albion, Radcliffe Borough, Leek Town and Lancaster City.
The date for the second trial has been set for Tuesday 10th June at 6.30pm and
