    Job Summary Accrington Stanley FC Job (The main purpose of the job)
    This post involves leading, managing and delivering on all aspects of the National Citizens Service project on behalf of Accrington Stanley Community Trust.

    Accrington Stanley Community Trust is an independent charity affiliated to Accrington Stanley Football Club and has recently secured a contract from the Football League Trust to deliver the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme. NCS is a programme for 16 and 17 year olds designed to help young people on their transition to adulthood and the roles they can play in their community.

    The role will include regular liaison with schools and colleges across Hyndburn, Ribble Valley and Rossendale as well as the Futsal Education Department within Accrington Stanley Community Trust and other Football Clubs operating similar schemes. This role also requires the holder to line manage all sessional staff within this project. Additional projects may be added to this role such as employability courses, education classes and any other funded projects that arise.

    There is also an expectation that the post holder will be experienced in coaching, qualified teacher or youth worker with management experience. In addition, previous experience working with young people in a school or community setting is essential. The role may also require a dedication to work on weekends, evenings and residential should the charity require it. There is a minimum requirement for the holder to have a full valid UK driving licence with business insurance as travelling across east Lancashire and other areas will be part of this role.

    Duties

    • To undertake a lead role in the successful delivery of the NCS Programme in Hyndburn on behalf of Accrington Stanley Community Trust (ASCT)
    • To find and develop local partnership opportunities. Liaise with schools and colleges amongst others, in order to create recruitment opportunities for young people onto the NCS programme
    • To recruit appropriate staff and volunteers to deliver the programme, including a group of youth volunteers to act as Ambassadors for the NCS programme
    • To manage staff and volunteers to ensure quality delivery is maintained, and provide appropriate training and support
    • To recruit participants for the NCS programme that will run in summer and autumn 2013
    • The collation and assessment of information on recruitment and sign up numbers. (There will administrative support available)
    • To attend meetings and be a positive representative for ASCT and Football League Trust both internally and externally. There will be regular regional meetings within the NW of the Country
    • To undertake any other duties as required by the line manager
    • To plan and organise graduation events for students on the programme
    • To ensure appropriate safeguarding and health & safety practices are implemented and followed throughout the programme for all local activities
    • To book all necessary venues and arrange other resource needs – for example residential, transportation and equipment/kit
    • To market the NCS programme through schools and colleges; use of existing forums and mechanism – e.g. Match day programmes, websites and on-going youth activities; and identification of innovative ways to attract young people
    • To attend meetings and CPD events when required to by the Community Manager
       

    Person Specification
    The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

    Essential Requirements:

    • A proven track record of successful project management and implementation
    • A proven track record of managing external partners and relationships
    • A proven ability to work to under pressure to tight deadlines
    • Examples of self-motivation and the ability to work on own initiative
    • Excellent communication skills including written, telephone and interpersonal skills
    • Proven planning and organisation skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Experience of creating, building and maintaining positive working relationships, particularly with schools, youth and community organisations
    • The ability to travel regularly and independently throughout the region

    Advantageous:

    • A knowledge and understanding of the National Citizenship programme
    • An understanding of the issues faced by young people
    • Practical experience of managing information operating systems including monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance frameworks
    • Experience of social network mechanisms including websites
    • Experience of Health and Safety and/or Welfare and Safeguarding policies and procedures
    • Experience of working with commercial partners and securing sponsorship and support for charitable activities

    Accrington Stanley Community Trust (ASCT) seeks to employ a National Citizen Service (NCS) Officer to coordinate the delivery of the National Citizen Service programme for Accrington Stanley Community Trust (ASCT). This will include the recruitment of young people, supporting the design and delivery of each phase, for each cohort throughout East Lancashire and ensuring a high level of quality throughout the programme.

    This is initially a fixed term contract until 31st December 2013.     Accrington Stanley Community Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and employees to share this commitment. This role involves work with young people and is subject to Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks. Clearance through The FA CRB system is required. As such this post is exempt for the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and the applicant must disclose all previous convictions including spent convictions. Two references will also be required. Applicants will, in addition be expected to undertake training appropriate to the role.
