    FA UEFA A LICENCE

    Course Pre-requisites for the FA UEFA A LICENCE  is to take the FA UEFA A LICENCE PART 1 FOR PROFESSIONALS PLAYERS,

    Who is it for? Candidates who took the UEFA A Licence Part 1.

     

    The FA UEFA A LICENCE is the highest practical coaching award available and builds on the technical and tactical content covered in the UEFA B Licence course or the other recognised equivalents.

    In addition this UEFA course will focus extensively on the effective application of the principles of play in the 11 v 11 game and the development of specialist individual roles within the team. The content exceeds the minimum requirements specified under UEFA guidelines (120 guided learning hours), as it is designed specifically to meet the needs of coaches working in England.

     

    Course Content The following practical aspects will be included in the course curriculum:

    Part 2 (six/seven regional cluster events):

     

    The full back as an attacker

    Overcoming deep lying defences

    The role of the number 9

    The role of the number 10

    The Shadow Striker

    plus wrong sided wide men

    Flexible forwards Attacking with a sweeper

    Defending with a sweeper

    Game Management: ‘Coaching in the game’ Varied coaching styles and methods will be developed throughout the course,

    and the use of Functional Practices,

    Phases of Play,

    Small-Sided Games and

    11v11 structures will be employed in the presentation of the practical content.

    Pre-course task Candidates are required to have completed the tasks in their FA UEFA A LICENCE Portfolio prior to the UEFA A
    Licence Part 2.

    The course co-ordinator will contact candidates around eight weeks prior to the course to request that they hand in their portfolio.

     

    Post-course task N/A Course Assessment All candidates on the new format of the FA UEFA A LICENCE (started the UEFA A LICENCE PART 1 FOR PROFESSIONALS PLAYERS in 2010) will be finally assessed in the following aspects

    (Final Assessment are not held during Part 2 of the course):

    Practical Coaching Project Assignments Recorded Coaching Sessions Assessment would be a culmination of two topics (during a separate assessment weekend or clubsite assessment).

    Students conduct four practical coaching sessions as part of the FA UEFA A LICENCE Award: Part 1 - one observed coaching practice

    Part 2 - one observed coaching practice Final assessment - two assessed sessions (one 'squad' session and one '11v11' session) There are three assessment areas: Organisation & Session Management Observation & Diagnosis Communication There are sub-criteria for each major criteria / assessment areas; 14 per assessed session.

    Candidates must demonstrate their competence for each sub-criterion in at least one of the assessed sessions.

    A final total will be awarded out of 28 marks, with candidates required to achieve a minimum of 21 marks in order to pass. Additionally, candidates will be required to successfully complete both the Project Assignments outlined on completion of Part 1 of the Course and the Recorded coaching sessions, which will be assessed and verified during Part 2 of the Course.

    Re-assessment There is no limit to the number of re-assessment opportunities, though candidates must successfully complete a re-assessment within the five year registration period. Detailed, constructive feedback will be given at the end of the assessment, with an action plan regarding the next stage.

    Before applying for re-assessment the candidate is advised to attend a regional/national support events, in order to gain further feedback as to their suitability for applying for re-assessment and the desired time scale for such an event.

    Please Note: The re-assessment fees are not included in the Course fees.

    Candidates may choose either of the following re-assessment methods: a) Undertake re-assessment as required at a National Re-assessment Weekend organised by The Football Association.

    Undertake re-assessment as required at a club site. (If a candidate chooses option ‘b’ they will be responsible for organising the facilities, equipment and players to coach who should be of a playing ability to the satisfaction of The FA Football Division)

    Course details

    1. Course Enrolment
    The Course will focus on developing the following four competences of the Candidate:

    1. Organisation
    2. Session Management
    3. Diagnosis
    4. Communication

    In order to assist the candidate and improve their ability with regard to the four competences, all
    candidates should comply with the following conditions of enrolment:
    - The course is delivered entirely in English and all students will need to speak and understand
    English.
    - The course is physically demanding. Students will be required to participate in practical sessions
    on a daily basis. Students should come prepared and physically fit for the course.

    The course focuses on the Candidate Coaching Competencies and therefore it is imperative that
    the candidates have some experience coaching in the context of the course:
    Small-sided games and Phase of Play (Attacking & Defending) before they undertake Part 1 of
    the course.

    During Part 1 of the course, candidates will be assessed on two topics of 25 minutes from the list
    of A Licence Coaching Topics found in the logbook.

    • The delivery of the course will be intensive and requires students to lead and contribute to
    discussions.

    • It is therefore in the candidate’s interest to practise and evaluate their coaching competences as
    much as possible before the commencement of the course.

    • Considerable information and knowledge will be imparted on the course to all of the candidates
    and notes will need to be taken.

    2. Course Structure

    The FA UEFA Advanced Coaching Licence / UEFA A Coaching Award is divided into two annual
    periods of two weeks. Part 1 of the course will be conducted during a residential period of two
    weeks at Lilleshall NSC and Part 2 will be conducted on the same basis for two weeks at the
    same venue, twelve months later. After completing the Part 1, you will have a maximum of three
    years in which to complete the Part 2.

    Between Part 1 and Part 2, one day, support seminars will be conducted for candidates at
    regional venues. Attendance at these support days is strongly recommended. Part 1 and Part 2
    will include practical and theoretical aspects of study with the Final Theory and Practical
    assessments being held during Part 2 of the course, After Part 1, each candidate will be provided
    with an Action Plan and will be required to undertake tasks before the Final Theoretical and

    Practical Assessments are conducted.

    • Distance Learning:

    • Course Projects.

    • A recorded minimum of 15 hours coaching.

    Course Objectives:
    On the completion of the course, successful candidates will be
    competent in and able to:

    • Operate effectively in a variety of coaching situations with players, groups and teams.

    • Plan, organise, conduct and evaluate practical coaching sessions on various aspects of play.

    • Successfully employ various coaching and teaching methods and styles as appropriate to the needs of the players and group.

    • Analyse both individual and team performance and thereby devise practice and training to suit
    the requirements of the players and team.

    • Understand the physical and physiological demands of playing the game, devise specific
    training and conditioning programmes as necessary.

    • Understand the importance and timely application of the various theoretical aspects appropriate
    to the role of the coach at the highest level.

    • Maintain the highest standards of conduct to promote Association Football.

    3. Course aims and objectives

    To educate the candidates in the practical and theoretical developments in modern football, so
    that they may devise, organise, conduct and evaluate coaching sessions in the advanced skills,
    tactics, strategies and systems of play, and also understand and employ the aspects appropriate
    to the role of ‘coach’ at the highest levels.
